| Job Summary |
The University of Texas at Dallas (
UTD) is seeking a Senior Scientist for the High Throughput Reaction Discovery and Synthesis Center (HTRDS Center). The applicant will be responsible for developing, implementing, and advancing automated microscale parallel experimentation workflows useful for the optimization of new reactions and for the high-throughput synthesis of libraries for biological screening. The position emphasizes handson method development, scientific problemsolving, and collaborative research, with additional responsibilities related to maintenance of the Center's instrumentation and user support. |
| Minimum Education and Experience |
A minimum of a PhD in a field directly related to research and a minimum of two years of experience/expertise as noted below. |
| Preferred Education and Experience |
The ideal candidate will have experience working in the areas of catalysis and synthetic methodology development, and will have background knowledge in laboratory automation, instrumentation, and data analysis. They should have experience developing workflows for (i) micro-scale parallel reaction optimization; (ii) small molecule synthesis, analysis of reaction mixtures, and purification and characterization of reaction products; and (iii) working with air-sensitive materials under inert atmosphere. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required for report/proposal writing, collaborating with others, and making research presentations.
Key requirements:
* PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
* Experience in synthetic methodology development and/or catalysis.
* Hands on experience with high throughput experimentation or parallel microscale reaction optimization, and analytical characterization of reaction products.
* Familiarity with analytical instrumentation (
LCMS,
GCMS and/or
SFCMS) and automated liquid handling systems.
* Experience working under inert atmosphere and handling air sensitive reagents.
* Strong communication skills (written and oral) for reporting, training, and scientific presentations. |
| Other Qualifications |
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position. |
| Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
* Design, test, and refine automated and parallel experimentation workflows for the development and optimization of synthetic methodologies.
* Implement and execute microscale parallel reaction workflows for highthroughput synthesis of chemical libraries for biological screening.
* Contribute to the medicinal chemistry optimization of lead compounds as part of collaborative projects
* Train and mentor users of the Center in highthroughput experimentation techniques, instrument operation, and workflow design, with an emphasis on enabling independent research.
* Maintain the Center's instrumentation and equipment; oversee daytoday operational tasks as needed.
* Write periodic scientific and operational reports related to the research output and new developments of the Center.
* Identify and pursue funding opportunities for expanding the center's research capabilities through instrument upgrades, new technology acquisition, and strategic growth.
* Present research advances and capabilities of the HTRDS Center at scientific meetings and professional venues |
