Position Title: Instructor of Artand Design Compensation: $3,000 - $9,000 Department: School of Art - Temp Start Date: 08/24/2026 About this opportunity: The School of Art at Ball State University invites applications for part-time instructors to teach courses in Foundations or Studio Art. Successful candidates may be hired to teach between one and three sections. Teaching responsibilities are on campus, in Muncie, Indiana. Course development support and pedagogical mentoring will be offered. All instructors are expected to communicate regularly with students, provide meaningful and timely assessments, post course information on Canvas, and submit grades and other reports on time. The School of Art has over forty full-time faculty and staff and offers state-of-the-art facilities serving more than 700 undergraduate majors. Programs at the BA, BS, and BFA levels include art education, art history, graphic design, animation production, illustration, game art/design, visual effects, and a studio art program that includes drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, glass, metals + jewelry, sculpture, photography, and video and new media. School of Art students enjoy world-class facilities, with over 73,000 square feet of classroom, gallery, and studio space in the Art and Journalism Building, Applied Technology Building, and the Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass. Students and faculty work closely with David Owsley Museum of Art on campus, among the finest university art collections in the nation. Ball State University is accredited by the National Association for Schools of Art and Design. Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship. Applications will remain active for 1 year. What you'll do and what you'll bring: Description: Instructors of Art and Design will teach undergraduate courses in the Foundations (2D, 3D, 4D, or Drawing) and/or Studio Art program (drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, glass, metals + jewelry, sculpture, photography, video and new media), and/or other courses in the candidate's area of expertise. Duties and Responsibilities: Teach between one and three undergraduate courses. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in art, design, or related discipline by time of appointment. Preferred Qualifications: MFA degree in art, design, or related discipline by time of appointment. Engagement with contemporary art practices as an educator, artist, designer, and/or illustrator. One year of teaching experience at the college level.
