This leader will define and deliver a roadmap that streamlines the provider PA experience-integrated into EHR workflows-by reducing administrative burden, improving submission quality, enabling faster determinations, and increasing transparency across payer interactions.

This role will operate at the intersection of provider operations, clinical/UM requirements, interoperability standards, and applied AI, partnering closely with third party partners, engineering, clinical SMEs, compliance/legal, growth teams, and go-to-market leaders to deliver measurable outcomes for providers and patients.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:
Product Vision, Strategy, and Roadmap:

  • Define and communicate a clear product vision and multi-quarter roadmap for provider prior authorization automation, aligned to enterprise objectives and market needs
  • Drive an AI-first strategy that reimagines provider PA workflows end-to-end, emphasizing automation with human oversight for exceptions
  • Translate regulatory and industry requirements-especially CMS Interoperability & Prior Authorization Final Rule (CMS-0057-F) and related standards-into actionable product plans, positioning the product for future interoperability expectations
  • Maintain competitive awareness and market insights to identify opportunities for differentiation and value creation
  • Define and monitor KPIs for product performance and business value (e.g., cycle time, touchless/automation rate, submission quality, denial avoidance, provider experience, adoption)

Cross-Functional Leadership and Delivery Excellence:

  • Lead cross-functional collaboration across product, design, engineering, clinical operations, legal/compliance, marketing, sales, third party partners, and customer success to deliver product initiatives end-to-end (concept launch optimization)
  • Establish and run a strong product rhythm of business (e.g., roadmap reviews, portfolio/initiative readouts, stakeholder updates, capitol planning, P&L management, governance forums), ensuring transparency on milestones, risks, and decisions
  • Ensure consistent backlog discipline and agile execution, translating business needs into clear requirements and measurable success criteria

AI Product Governance, Measurement, and Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive responsible AI product practices, working with the internal AI Review Board to develop test/measurement plans, feedback loops, and model performance monitoring aligned to enterprise governance expectations
  • Champion a learning system: instrumentation, experimentation, and iterative improvement based on real-world workflow data and stakeholder feedback

Stakeholder Management and Go-to-Market Partnership:

  • Partner with GTM stakeholders to shape positioning, value narrative, packaging, pricing strategy, and readiness (demos, messaging, enablement) for provider buyers and internal field teams
  • Serve as a credible product leader with executive presence and polish-able to represent the roadmap, strategy, finances, and outcomes to senior leaders and strategic customers

Vendor & Strategic Partnership Governance:

  • Own product level governance with vendor partners and manage the day to day Optum-vendor product relationship, ensuring alignment on roadmap, delivery expectations, and enterprise requirements
  • Serve as the primary product point of contact for assigned partners, accountable for aligning partner delivered capabilities with product strategy, enterprise requirements, and customer needs
  • Support the GTM team in tracking and managing product sales pipeline and channel conflict related to vendor delivered capabilities
  • Lead and orchestrate internal review and approval processes for vendor delivered enhancements and features, guiding partner engineering teams through Optum product, architecture, security, legal, compliance, and readiness reviews to ensure solutions meet enterprise standards and are production ready
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify and advance new opportunities for product collaboration, roadmap alignment, and strategic initiatives with vendors that expand product value and accelerate delivery of provider prior authorization capabilities

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of product management experience, including ownership of product strategy and roadmap for complex, cross-functional initiatives
  • 3+ years in a product leadership role (people leadership and/or leading through influence in a matrixed environment)
  • Demonstrated success delivering workflow-integrated products in healthcare (provider, payer, RCM, UM, EMRs, clinical operations, or adjacent domains)
  • Solid ability to translate customer and operational needs into requirements, roadmaps, and measurable outcomes; comfort with data-driven prioritization and product analytics
  • Experience collaborating deeply with engineering and architecture teams on product delivery and platform integration
  • Ability to travel up to 20% when needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Authorization domain experience (provider-side submission workflows, payer requirements, documentation, status tracking), including knowledge of common friction points and operational realities
  • Experience with EHR integration and interoperability standards (e.g., HL7/FHIR patterns; familiarity with Da Vinci concepts such as CRD/DTR/PAS)
  • AI-enabled product experience (GenAI/LLMs, NLP/document understanding, decision support) including measurement, monitoring, and responsible deployment practices
  • Familiarity with product planning and delivery tools/processes used in enterprise product organizations (e.g., agile ceremonies, roadmap tooling, structured product delivery standards)
