Reporting to the Head of Optum.ai, the Director, Strategy - Optum.ai serves as the trusted voice and advisor to help the executive determine, articulate, and execute the business vision, mission, planning, and strategies to achieve business goals and key strategic imperatives. The Director proactively assumes responsibility for leading and executing on critical strategic initiatives and executive projects, responding to requests across the enterprise, and serving as a key contact and decision maker on behalf of the Head of Optum.ai as part of the Optum.ai executive management team. This role works collaboratively across the executive leadership team, with leaders across the full UHG enterprise, and with other strategy roles across the organization to align and synchronize overarching business initiatives and priorities. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast paced, high impact, dynamic environment and in proactively identifying, and then moving quickly to action,

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Head of Optum AI by providing synthesized insights, structured recommendations, and decision frameworks on high priority topics, and by identifying emerging issues that require executive attention and framing solution-oriented options
  • Provide leadership and guidance on critical strategic initiatives and high impact efforts, including driving the strategy, differentiation, and go to market approach for Responsible AI services, and coordinating closely with leaders across technology, engineering, data, product, commercial, finance, and UHG enterprise functions to ensure solid alignment with business partners, segments, and functional areas and to support the build, delivery, and scaling of AI governance capabilities
  • Lead preparation for leadership meetings and executive engagements, including end to end preparation for executive client meetings such as agenda alignment, briefing materials, pre reads, and follow through, ensuring clear objectives, high quality materials, and consistent execution, and develop concise, executive ready communications including briefings, decision documents, and leadership updates, while reinforcing a high performance leadership culture by embedding performance and mindset practices into executive routines, planning cycles, and strategic decision processes
  • Serve as a key participant in the preparation of responses to RFPs and SOW efforts, partnering closely with commercial, product, delivery, and finance leaders to ensure strategic alignment and high quality submissions
  • Partner with People Team partners and functional leaders to shape and advance strategic talent pipeline initiatives, supporting the attraction and development of top AI and data science talent in alignment with Optum.ai's long term growth and capability needs
  • Ensure organizational discipline, confidentiality, and cultural alignment within a globally distributed workforce

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Extensive, progressive experience in AI strategy, AI consulting, AI transformation, or related domains, demonstrating ability to solve complex problems, influence senior leaders, and lead department initiatives
  • Proven ability to operate as a senior strategic advisor, translating ambiguous or emerging concepts into actionable recommendations
  • Demonstrated success leading high visibility, cross functional initiatives with enterprise level implications and resolving unique or complex business challenges
  • Proven solid executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate complex concepts with clarity and precision
  • Experience partnering across global delivery environments, including offshore engineering, data, or product organizations
  • Ability to rapidly synthesize information and recommend decisive actions in fast paced, high growth environments
  • Demonstrated professionalism and discretion in managing confidential or sensitive information
  • Ability to be highly organized, manage multiple priorities and lead cross functional efforts without formal authority

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $134,600 to $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
