The Market Leader leads the Optum Insight Provider Market client portfolio. This growth-oriented leader is engaged with clients, leads the client management teams and is charged with developing and executing strategic, commercial account plans to maximize value to our customers. The leader is accountable for financial and customer outcomes across the Optum Insight Provider Market business. This executive will have direct accountability for the profitable growth and deployment of the overall Provider portfolio. They will work with customers and internal partners to deliver on Optum's customer commitments. The Market Leader will work with team members across the UnitedHealth Group enterprise to align on customer plans and priorities.

The Market Leader is responsible for driving financial management, growth and efficiency efforts across the client accounts. You will engage the matrixed teams in support of the Provider Market objectives for revenue, earnings, growth and client satisfaction. This includes engaging across growth, operations, product, and technology teams. Attainment of these business objectives will be achieved through leadership competencies and practices including operational excellence, being the voice of the market, the ability to scale the business, lead in a matrix environment and drive growth by collaborating across other divisions within UnitedHealth Group. The successful candidate must be passionate about client excellence and delivery, creating new markets, and discovering new business opportunities. This leader must be exceptional at working in a fast-paced environment and display stellar executive presence with C-Suite executives. This role requires an individual who understands how to get things done at Optum through influence by leveraging extensive interpersonal and collaboration skills. The Market Leader will demonstrate solid critical thinking skills, proven success driving complex strategies, outstanding crossgroup organizational agility, and highly effective written and verbal communication skills, while leading and developing teams, optimizing processes, and driving disciplined execution across a highly matrixed environment. Additionally, the Market Leader should have an established record of having run a large P&L, including operations, product innovation, and revenue & profitability growth.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires within 30 minutes of an office in Minnesota or Washington, D.C., you'll be required to work a minimum of four days per week in-office.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Managing and growing a large P&L (approximately $2B)
  • Leadership accountability for an organization of client-focused associates
  • Driving outcomes with internal matrix business stakeholders across Optum to ensure customer centricity, high NPS scores and renewal rates, delivery against customer needs and expectations, profitable growth, and representation for the voice of the customer in our current and future products and technologies
  • Lead with an AIfirst mindset by driving responsible GenAI, analytics, and automation adoption to accelerate growth, improve decisions, and scale operations-partnering with product, technology, and data teams to turn new capabilities into differentiated market impact
  • Influencing internal and external customers at the VP & C-Suite level as a trusted executive partner
  • Championing market intimacy by driving organizational accountability to market needs, product requirements, competitive information and other knowledge essential for our business
  • Developing and executing business growth and remediation plans aligned with short- and long-term organizational strategies
  • Build and sustain a highperforming, engaged team by modeling solid leadership, developing talent, and fostering a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and results
  • Understanding the future and current state of the industry to provide strategic oversight to Product, Operations and service delivery teams based upon customer needs
  • Driving accountability in the organization to deliver strategies and tactics that positively impact key drivers, such as price, risk profile, utilization, activation, attrition, and revenue, to ensure P&L and market share goals are achieved
  • Delivering executive-level communication to key Optum Insight and Optum executives regarding market strategy and business performance
  • Exceeding OKRs, MBOs, SLAs and operating targets
  • Delivering exceptional customer Net Promotor Score (NPS) results
  • Driving exceptional Employee Experience and Manager Effectiveness results
  • Build for the future and provide solid leadership; oversee talent plans and strategies to attract, motivate and retain a diverse, qualified, and engaged team to fulfill current and future business needs
  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company

Required Qualifications:

  • 15 + years of progressive leadership roles in the Health Care, Advanced Analytics or HealthTech industries with a proven record of leading growth programs and delivering measurable results
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in large, growthoriented, clientfocused organizations, partnering closely with General Managers to deliver growth and client outcomes across a $2B portfolio, including ownership of sales/bookings execution, revenue growth, client satisfaction, and expense discipline
  • 5+ years in managed services, including delivery and operations
  • Experience in driving deep, productive relationships with C-Suite and senior client executives and Board of Directors (external)
  • Demonstrated success building and evolving relationships with C-suite and matrixed stakeholders (internal)
  • History of leading, influencing and managing a large, matrixed workforce with successful people and team leadership experience - motivating, mentoring, and developing talent
  • Track record of success driving major initiatives across highly complex and matrixed organizations
  • Experience in Mergers & Acquisitions, strategic partnerships and other business development strategies
  • Demonstrated visionary thinking and ability to translate business strategies that create or sustain competitive advantage
  • Proven ability to analyze complex market opportunities and develop creative solutions to a wide variety of unique market problems
  • Demonstrated track record of active collaboration, engagement, oversight and strategy development of key growth opportunities
  • Solid strategic planning, analytics, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to build credibility and gain the respect and confidence of clients and internal partners
  • Proven leadership skills with Employee Experience and Manager Effectiveness indices
  • Willing and able to travel 50% of the time on a sustained basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in related field (e.g. Master's Business Administration)
  • Experience supporting Optum Markets (Payers, Employers, Providers, Federal/State government, Emerging Markets)
  • Experience working across UHG, Optum and UHC lines of businesses
  • Direct experience working with product and technology teams
  • Proven application of change management methodologies
  • Proficient skills and knowledge of servant leadership, resilience, resourcefulness, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $200,400 to $343,500 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
