Primary Responsibilities:

  • Guide teams in identifying complex challenges and opportunities for improvement by recognizing customer impacts, utilizing available resources, and coaching members to enhance problem definition abilities
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of healthcare regulations and related technological applications that support product capabilities. Develop and implement learning strategies to expand expertise in healthcare. Mentor and onboard new architects while facilitating communication between technical and non-technical groups
  • Oversee teams as they evaluate current processes, identify gaps, explore solution options, and present recommendations to colleagues and stakeholders
  • Lead architectural teams in implementing product and platform architecture practices consistent with UHC and Optum standards, Drive the development of product capability strategies, create detailed architecture documentation, and work collaboratively with business and engineering partners
  • Ensure all solutions comply with enterprise architecture standards, identify reusable design patterns, and exhibit Agile architecture principles. Supervise junior architects through Segment ARB review completion
  • Display expert-level proficiency in technology stacks relevant to various software components and capabilities
  • Understand deployment models for software components, including their associated costs, and spearhead migration efforts to embrace modernized deployment approaches
  • Apply advanced knowledge in security, performance, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and usability when designing solutions
  • Assess service areas to propose automation opportunities across multiple capabilities and recommend process retrospectives for ongoing improvement
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies to recognize innovative applications, guiding teams to suggest prototypes and pilot projects that highlight their strengths and limitations
  • Collaborate with business units and other systems to design integrated solutions, serving as a subject matter expert on functionality
  • Choose the most appropriate technology to address each challenge effectively

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in software solution architecture, with a focus on AI/ML systems
  • 7+ years of experience architecting scalable platforms and microservices, including RESTful API design and cloud-native development
  • 3+ years of experience communicating architectural vision and strategy across cross-functional teams
  • 1+ years of experience with AI/ML concepts including responsible AI principles, multi-agent solutions, generative AI, MCP and A2A
  • Proven solid analytical skills to dissect intricate problems and devise effective solutions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Experience deploying and monitoring LLM-based cloud systems
  • Healthcare experience (provider or consumer)
  • Agile/Scrum, Microservices, and Domain Driven Design experience
  • Familiar with PII/PHI or sensitive data handling
  • Proven effective communicator with ability to simplify technical topics
  • Proven to be action-oriented
  • Proven interest in innovation and latest AI/ML trends

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
