The Process Engineer is responsible for designing, optimizing, and sustaining end to end fulfillment process within a high volume mail order facility. This role partners closely with Operations, IT, Automation, and Maintenance teams to improve throughput, quality, and reliability through data driven process optimization, deployment and testing of software features, and hands on mechanical system understanding. The Process Engineer acts as a bridge between physical equipment, operational workflows, and supporting software systems to ensure scalable and efficient fulfillment performance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
    • Analyze current state fulfillment workflows to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and quality risks across picking, packing, sorting, and shipping processes
    • Design and implement process improvements that increase throughput, reduce cost per unit, and improve service level performance
    • Develop standard work, process documentation, and operating procedures to ensure consistent execution
    • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for operational defects, downtime, and performance variance, implementing sustainable corrective actions
    • Define and track key process metrics (cycle time, utilization, yield, error rates) to measure impact of improvements
    • Analysis of current state via Data driven sources (SQL Database, production information)
  • Software Feature Deployment & Testing
    • Partner with IT, Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams to deploy new or enhanced software features supporting fulfillment execution
    • Participate in requirements definition, user acceptance testing (UAT), and controlled production rollouts
    • Validate that software changes integrate correctly with current processes and technologies
    • Support post deployment monitoring, issue triage, and stabilization activities
    • Provide operational feedback to development teams to improve usability, reliability, and performance
  • Mechanical Systems & Equipment Support
    • Maintain working knowledge of material handling equipment (conveyance, sortation, packing automation, printers, scanners, and peripheral devices), IT infrastructure, and Automation systems (Eg PLCs)
    • Collaborate with Maintenance and Automation Engineering to align process design with mechanical system capabilities and constraints
    • Support equipment trials, layout changes, and line re balancing efforts
    • Identify opportunities where mechanical or layout changes can enable process or software improvements
  • Cross Functional Collaboration
    • Act as a technical liaison between Operations, Engineering, IT, Maintenance, and external vendors
    • Support pilot programs, new technology introductions, and facility initiatives
    • Train operations teams on new processes, tools, and system changes

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with database queries (MS SQL, MySQL etc.)
  • Experience analyzing operational data and translating insights into process improvements
  • Working knowledge of electromechanical systems, material handling equipment and industrial workflows
  • Working knowledge of automation, robotics, or industrial control systems (PLC adjacent or operational interaction)
  • Proven solid problem solving, analytical, and root cause analysis skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a production critical environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in high volume mail order, e commerce, or automated fulfillment facilities
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies
