Job Summary |
The Library Assistant
III provides specialized support to the History of Aviation Archives (
HAC) within the University Library at The University of Texas at Dallas. This position is responsible for arranging, processing, preserving, and describing archival collections; performing data entry and record maintenance in Microsoft Office and archival content management systems; maintaining organizational and file-naming standards; and responding to reference and digitization requests.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, proficiency with computer applications, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a collaborative academic environment. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the preservation and accessibility of historically significant materials that support research, teaching, and public engagement. The position reports to the Senior Curator of Aviation Archives and the Dean of Libraries. |
Minimum Education and Experience |
High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a library setting; or any comparable combination of education and practical experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience |
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
- One year of experience in an academic library using an integrated library system.
- Graduate student or recent graduate of an accredited Library and Information Science program.
- Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and accurate in all phases of work.
- Experience working in a dynamic, customer service focused environment, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position. |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain proper care of all types of archival materials.
- Perform basic archival functions, such as arranging, processing, preserving, and describing archival materials.
- Create inventories of archival materials during processes such as accessioning and collections processing.
- Perform data entry in Microsoft Office; use Adobe Suite applications, archival content management system ArchivesSpace, and library cataloging system Ex Libris.
- Perform stacks maintenance by rearranging archival boxes on shelves and report results in the content management system.
- Respond to national and international research requests via e-mail or telephone, and assist patrons and scholars who visit the History of Aviation Archives.
- Cover the area during the Senior Curator's absence by taking requests, giving directions, and greeting patrons as needed.
- Fulfill patron orders and/or requests by utilizing multiple types of digitization equipment, such as flatbed scanners, desktop scanners, digital microfilm readers, and photocopiers.
- Support the Senior Curator of Aviation Archives in day-to-day operations.
- Observe organizational file structure and file naming conventions for both physical and digital items.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
