About this opportunity:

The Research Technician at Ball State's Center for Medical Education will work with faculty member and students to explore the roles of glycogen in health and disease.

What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Position Function: Provide support to the Principal Investigator using a multidisciplinary approach to study glucose metabolism in transgenic and knockout mice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and train undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Apply the following techniques in the laboratory: polymerase chain reaction; tissue and fluid metabolite measurements; Western blotting; mouse husbandry; histology; electron and confocal microscopy; mouse behavioral analysis; enzyme activity measurements.

  • Collect data; maintain accurate laboratory notebook and other records.

  • Order supplies; monitor inventory of mice, reagents, and disposables; cleaning instruments and glassware; maintain laboratory instruments.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a biological science from an accredited institution by date of appointment.

  • Experience working in a laboratory.

  • Ability to adhere to a protocol, meet deadlines requested by Principal Investigator; be highly motivated and work well independently; willingness to handle mice.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a biological science.

  • Experience with mouse husbandry, mouse behavior, microscopy; additional years of related experience.
