Job Description:

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of all industrial electrical systems and automated machinery to ensure continuous, efficient, and safe operation. This role requires a strong electrical troubleshooting background to diagnose and resolve complex issues and perform preventative maintenance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Troubleshooting and Repair:
    • Systematically diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions in equipment, controls, and components using advanced troubleshooting skills.
    • Work with a range of electrical systems, including 480V 3-phase and lower voltages, motor controls, drives (AC/DC), and servo systems.
    • Execute online troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and other industrial automation.
  • Preventative and Corrective Maintenance:
    • Perform scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
    • Inspect and test electrical systems and components, such as wiring, fuses, switches, and relays, to identify potential issues.
  • Technical Interpretation and Compliance:
    • Read and interpret complex electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams to perform required maintenance.
    • Ensure all electrical work and installations comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other relevant safety and regulatory standards.
  • Installation and System Support:
    • Install, support, and integrate new electrical equipment and system upgrades.
    • Participate in facility and equipment upgrade projects.
  • Collaboration and Documentation:
    • Collaborate with engineering, production, and other maintenance team members to address complex issues and identify root causes of failures.
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used, typically within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
    • Assist with training other maintenance personnel on electrical systems.
  • Safety and Standards:
    • Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Uphold high standards of safety and cleanliness in all work areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required; Associate's degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5years of experience as an industrial electrician or maintenance technician, with a strong emphasis on electrical systems.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical control systems, PLCs, and VFDs.
  • Proficiency in using electrical testing instruments such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and meggers.
  • Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, electrical schematics, and blueprints.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make quick, effective decisions under pressure.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, or overtime as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and noise.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, and lifting for extended periods.
  • May require working in high and confined spaces.
