Responsible for the set up and operations of various sheet metal machines to fabricate components to specifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Locate the correct gauge of sheet metal for the job.
  • Set up the machine according to job requirements.
  • Lay outlines, reference points and dimensions on materials.
  • Follows blueprints, rough sketches or engineering drawings to shape metal accurately.
  • Shape work piece to a specific configuration.
  • Join sheet metal subassemblies together to make finished product.
  • Inspect part with measuring device to assure it is within tolerances to the blueprint.
  • Set part on table for final inspection.
  • Keep track of and report safety issues

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Three year's sheet metal fabrication experience.

DECISIONMAKING RESPONSIBIITIES

Applies knowledge to determine established procedures to apply and ensures safety standards are met. Keeps track of safety issues and notifies appropriate individual.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the standard methods and practices of the sheet metal trade.
  • Good oral, interpersonal, and written communications skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Must be able to read a tape measure and do basic math.
  • Must have good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to make precise bends and cuts in metal.
  • Analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Good mechanical skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment where hazardous or unpleasant conditions arise. Work area is influenced by environmental conditions of hot or cold temperatures.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Must have the ability to stand at a machine for extended periods.
  • Requires precise calculations and accurate blueprint understanding to perform proper sequencing.
  • Constantly involves simple grasping, lifting up to 10 lbs., and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently involves walking, standing, power grasping, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasionally involves sitting, bending at the waist, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling, reaching above and below the shoulder level, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Involves driving a forklift, works around equipment and machinery, operation of foot controls, and requires the utilization of protective equipment as needed.
