Fuss & O'Neill is seeking a Water Resources Engineer or Scientist to support our growing climate resilience practice in New York and throughout the Northeast. We are looking for a creative and versatile professional with a strong interest in modeling and design work and a foundation of core CAD and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling skills. The applicant will sit within our Water and Natural Resources practice and support design of sustainable approaches to improving climate resilience, restoring natural river systems and processes, and managing stormwater.

The ideal candidate will possess a broad base of knowledge relative to watershed processes, water resources, and ecological systems. This position will focus on climate adaptation and resilience projects primarily for local, state, and federal agencies, although it could also include work for the private sector.

Qualified candidates will have an intellectual curiosity to explore and master new practice areas, attention to detail, ability to take professional responsibility for assigned work tasks and products, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently on tasks, and willingness and ability to train and mentor early career engineers.

Fuss & O'Neill offers both technical and project management tracks; this professional will have the option to pursue project management and business development should they choose, but these are not requirements of the position.

Responsibilities



  • Complete a wide range of engineering and design tasks to support design of the above project types in collaboration with senior engineers and scientists
  • Plan and conduct field work such geomorphic assessment, sediment and water sampling, and survey
  • Conduct and interpret hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analyses to inform design
  • Develop design concepts and convert design concepts into constructible design plans and specifications
  • Develop engineering cost estimates and technical reports
  • Conduct construction oversight and administration
  • Verify and guide work of early career engineering staff
  • Support technical mentoring and training of early career engineering staff
  • Ensure all projects adhere to high standards of work through QA/QC processes
  • Manage own time and work efficiently in line with project schedules and budgets
  • Manage own professional development


Position Requirements



  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in civil or environmental engineering, with a focus in water resources or a closely related discipline
  • Typically requires 4+ years of experience in engineering design, preferably with relevance to the current posting
  • PE license or ability to obtain PE within 1 year
  • Previous experience producing engineering plan sets using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Previous experience performing hydrologic/hydraulic modeling using software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, HydroCAD, etc.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work on multiple simultaneous projects and in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to partner with clients to understand and respond to their needs
