Job Summary

The OR Hospital Assistant, under the direction of the registered nurse and patient care management team, will participate as an integral member of the patient care team.

Performs multiple support functions directed toward positive patient care outcomes. Responsible for supporting all aspects of peri-operative services to ensure efficiency, prep, and turnover of rooms.


Works at all UCSF locations and ambulatory surgery sites.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications


  • Two years hands-on experience in a healthcare environment
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job description
  • Willingness to be taught/learn new skills
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Ability to organize work duties
  • Ability to move heavy equipment and boxes
  • Ability to operate some complex machinery
  • Knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of and proactive basic aseptic technique when carrying out assignments
  • Ability to set priorities within work assignment
  • Exemplary customer service
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications


  • One year related OR experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in an ambulatory surgery environment

License/Certification


  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
