Position Summary
The Senior Accommodations Coordinator is an integral part of the Disability Resource Center ( DRC) and reports to the Assistant Director. This position is primarily responsible for managing a caseload of students with disabilities by evaluating disability related documentation, determining appropriate accommodations, and working with students, faculty, and other UGA resources to ensure service delivery. In collaboration with other staff members of the DRC, this position will aid in the retention and academic success of students with disabilities by informing them about appropriate academic accommodations, self-advocacy, and relevant policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, guidelines, and regulations regarding students with disabilities in the University environment.
  • Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in complex problem-solving and ethical decision-making.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high-volume, open-access team environment that includes regular disruptions, while maintaining a positive outlook and effective productivity.
  • Proficiency with matters related to diversity and disability experiences.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively handle highly sensitive and confidential information within applicable laws.
  • Ability to independently exercise judgement and expertise in making recommendations to University staff and faculty regarding improvements to campus accessibility.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

Duties/Responsibilities
Manage caseload of students with disabilities to coordinate provision of appropriate academic accommodations.

  • Works with caseload of students enrolled in various professional schools.
  • Assess disability-related accommodations of students with disabilities by engaging in the interactive process for the development of academic accommodations and service.
  • Monitor academic progress of a student caseload through outreach, intervention, and retention strategies. Coordinate appropriate academic accommodations with faculty and educate faculty regarding the academic support needs of students.
  • Document communications, actions, and accommodations while maintaining confidentiality.

Work with the professional school liaison regarding procedures and services for students in professional schools.

  • Assigned caseload will include professional school students.
  • Communicate as needed with professional schools and DRC professional school liaison to understand policy and procedures as they specifically apply to professional schools.

Explain DRC services and procedures to both prospective and enrolled students by acting as On Call Coordinator.

  • Participate in orientation programs.

Promote equal access to all programs and activities provided on campus and support DRC services.

  • Participate in internal DRC committees designed to support academic accommodations.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Provide in-service training to faculty and staff.
  • Keep abreast of new developments pertaining to students in postsecondary education.
  • Cross train in other areas of the DRC such as Alternative Text, Accommodated Testing, and front desk reception duties.
