Department Marketing Statement The Sponsored Projects Office (SPO), as part of the Office of Research, is responsible for soliciting and accepting contracts and grants in support of the UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) research enterprise. SPO is responsible for the effective and timely review and submission of sponsored project proposals, and for preparing, interpreting, negotiating, and accepting agreements on behalf of UCSB. SPO coordinates closely with faculty, researchers, and research administration staff to secure and ensure proper stewardship of external funding and compliance with campus policies for research, instruction and public service activities. Additionally, SPO is responsible for non-accounting post-award contracts and grants administration, including issuing and negotiating subawards for collaborative research. Brief Summary of Job Duties Under the general direction of the Director of Sponsored Projects, responsible for a variety of complex operational, managerial and oversight functions in support of this central research administration. Duties involve activities associated with direct supervision and management of sponsored projects staff assigned to campus units; analyzing and interpreting federal, state and university policies and procedures; developing and disseminating research administration-related information to the campus; and oversight of specialized research administrative functions to achieve operational goals and objectives.
