Job Summary

This position begins Fall 2024

This position delivers nursing theory, conducts skills lab, attends clinicals, and facilitates simulation-based instruction to a diverse student population in one or more of the following content areas: fundamentals, high acuity medical-surgical, and medical-surgical.

Faculty in our department cross-cover content areas to meet the needs of our students. In collaboration with your peers, you will design, facilitate, and assess student learning through in-person and hybrid modalities. You will role model the registered nurse's professional qualities to students in service, collaboration, communication, caring, and holism. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to student learning by aligning teaching and learning activities with adult learning principles. A master's degree is required to teach the theoretical component of the Maricopa Nursing RN program.

Essential Functions

Instruction: Supervises and instructs students from diverse backgrounds in the classroom, lab, simulation, and clinical agencies using various presentation techniques. Designs facilitates, and assesses student learning through in-person, synchronous remote, and hybrid modalities by aligning teaching activities, assessments, and student learning outcomes within an innovative, collaborative learning environment. Creates instructional materials and develops curriculum that demonstrates innovation in teaching by focusing on student learning, retention and achievement; incorporates instructional technology; instructs in both traditional and non-traditional settings; develops course syllabi and materials which include learner-centered strategies to engage students and promote student success; utilizes college and departmental assessment tools; participates in continuous evaluation and improvement of teaching and learning

Assessment: Designs diverse traditional and non-traditional assessments of student learning using a variety of modalities;

Technology & Innovation: Identifies and incorporates innovative instructional technology and alternative delivery modalities, including implementation of Quality Matters; Assists and responds to problems/requests from students during in-person office hours, virtual office hours, and electronic communication; serves on collaborative work teams with faculty, staff, administration and community stakeholders, keeps department hours of accountability; Maintains statistical data and tracking related to end of course student learning outcomes;

Professional contributions & development: Remains current with new trends and developments in both the nursing and education fields through attendance at conferences, seminars, workshops, and active participation within the community; engages in the academic life of the college by participating in district-wide, campus, and departmental activities including department meetings, special committees, and projects; contributes to accreditation reports and grant writing.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree plus 3 years of experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care, OR a BSN and a graduate degree and 2 years experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care, OR a graduate degree in nursing and 2 years of experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care by the first day of employment.

2. Must hold an Arizona registered nurse license in good standing or multi-state privilege to practice in Arizona by the first day of employment.

3. Must meet health and safety requirements, including CPR certification, Fingerprint Clearance Card, Background check, and drug testing.

Desired Qualifications

1. Masters of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) by the first day of employment.

2. Two (2) or more years of experience with curriculum design and teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse student populations, including instructional technology-enhanced classes.

3. One or more years experience in facilitation of INASCL-based simulation experiences for nursing education, including computer software, mannikins, recording software, etc

4. Experience developing and administering a variety of formal and informal assessment strategies to enhance student learning and improve instruction.

5. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by recognizing different communication and learning styles, encouraging individuality, maintaining a respectful environment, preventing prejudices, recognizing biases, and promoting social justice.

6. Evidence of continuing education in Nursing and/or Nursing Education, specifically the ability to facilitate difficult conversations and address conflicts with sensitivity and compassion.

Special Working Conditions
  • Possession of a valid Level I DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card is required by day 1 of employment.
  • Possession of an active, unencumbered Arizona Registered Nursing license required by day 1 of employment.
  • Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
  • May be required to undergo clinical agency background and drug screen.
  • Instructing at multiple sites and/or teaching days, evenings, or weekends may be required.
  • Assignments may extend past the normal academic semesters.
  • May require lifting objects weighing up to 50lbs
