Job Summary

Paradise Valley Community College is seeking to hire a Student Services Supervisor of Career Services who leads the career services department to ensure that every Puma emerges with career self-knowledge, employability skills, professional connections, and career opportunities. The manager aligns the department's efforts with the PVCC strategic plan, .

Under general direction of the Dean of Student Affairs, the Supervisor of Career Services provides oversight of the PVCC Career Services and staff, and collaboratively leads campus efforts to
improve career management programming, career opportunities and outcomes. The Manager implements the Career Services' strategic plan and oversees assessment of programs, initiatives,
and strategies taken by Career Services to ensure its reach to students, alumni, employers and community members. The Manager and career services staff build mission-critical connections
with community and industry that amplify the assets that PVCC students bring to the campus, to their professional careers and to the region.

Core responsibilities include:
  • Develops and manages comprehensive career management programs and center that supports the learning, development, and job search activities of students, alumni and community members and manages relationships with industry and employers seeking to build campus connections to Career Services.
  • Lead strategy for integrative and co-curricular career education in collaboration with
    senior campus leadership.
  • Supervises and manages budgeting and staffing for the unit; is responsible for selecting, supervising and evaluating Career Services staff. Support the Career Advisor to lead the Job Shadow Program, co-curricular activities
  • Represents PVCC in the Maricopa Community College District as a member of the MCCCD Career Council and in regional and national organizations, and in the community at large
  • Oversees the delivery of career-relevant workshops/webinars, presentations, and events including Job Fairs and Career Panels, and represents Career Services through community and industry-relevant speaking engagements
  • Oversees the broadcast and adoption of career services to PVCC faculty though classroom presentations and program integration in Canvas Learning Management System. Works with Academic Chairs, First Year Programing (FYE) as well as Work Based Experiences (WBE)
  • Integrates Maricopa PipelineAZ, the proprietary job and internship database
  • Member of the Work Based Experience (WBE) PVCC and MCCCD committees to inform and broaden student participation in internships, service learning, clinical and shadowing experiences
  • Assessment and innovation to respond to student needs, career trends and client needs

To achieve these goals and perform these responsibilities, the Supervisor continually builds client knowledge to ensure that Career Services programs generate inclusion, cultural relevance, and high value to its primary clients: students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers. The person selected for this position will demonstrate a commitment to service excellence, innovation, student success, integrity, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in the performance of their job duties.

Essential Functions

45% Oversee Career Services staff, budget, annual operational plan, refining department goals, KPIs, and activities that align with campus strategic plan and create the basis of individual performance plans. Collaborate with the Institutional Effectiveness office to facilitate assessment opportunities. Serve as a back-up Administrator in the event of the absence of the Academic Advising Director

25% Partner with Chairs, FOI leads, alumni, Analysts, and Student Life to lead and support FOI initiatives, job shadowing, co-curricular activities, First Year Programing (FYE) as well as Work Based Experiences (WBE)

20% Serve as career services thought leader, sharing insights and best practices with senior campus leadership, faculty and career services leaders. Collaborate with PVCC departments to leverage the use of Maricopa PipelineAZ. Collaborate with the Institutional Effectiveness office to facilitate assessment opportunities

5% Participate in the MCCCD District Career Advisory Council, the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE) and other regional and national professional development opportunities (As budgets and time management allow)

5% Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, sociology, business administration or directly related field and four years of student services or related experience that includes such things as administration of policies and procedures, program oversight and two years of supervisory experience. Experience overseeing an office or department.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in counseling, psychology, human resources, talent development, management, education, sociology, business administration (or related)
  2. 1-3 years of experience serving as manager of a complex, career-services function in a diverse college setting
  3. Experience presenting to large, diverse groups of students, staff, faculty and/or community partners


Special Working Conditions
  • May require possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License or other state license; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving:
  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
  • May require travel or work at the Black Mountain campus
  • May require numerous evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of standing, sitting and viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs.
