Job Summary

Ensures the quality of LVN patient care and serves as a role model. Assists staff with escalated issues and reports patients' status and concerns to management or clinicians as needed.

Reporting to the Director of Executive Health (EXH), the LVN Supervisor of the Executive Health Practice functions under the direction of the Director and Medical Director of EXH and is guided by the procedures of Ambulatory Services. The LVN Supervisor is responsible for supervising other LVN and liaison staff in the Executive Health Practice within Concierge Services; as well as providing nursing care to patients in the Practice. The LVN Supervisor ensures that all components of nursing care will be individualized to meet the patient's physiological and psycho-social developmental-level needs. The LVN Supervisor consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor and shall comply with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards.

The LVN Supervisor works independently and has responsibility for managing the flow of Executive Health and Concierge Patients within the Executive Health Practice. The LVN Supervisor also assists in obtaining second opinion consultations for this patient population and is responsible for coordinating and interfacing with senior administration, faculty and community physicians, hospital departments and practices, patients and families to facilitate access to all institutional services while improving patient satisfaction. The LVN Supervisor must interact effectively with a diverse, very high-profile population, including patients, senior business leaders, major donors, politicians, celebrities, UCSF senior leadership, providers, and all staff levels, at all times exhibiting grace under pressure, diplomacy, kindness and compassion to others while working under extreme deadlines, scheduling constraints, and urgent clinical and/or patient personal needs.

Department Description

Concierge Service is offered to UCSF donors, those with important relationships to UCSF, patients with complicated needs and their families, friends and colleagues. The Executive Health Practice is a small primary care internal medicine practice that invites the most generous donors and special relationship people, seeking primary care at UCSF to join the practice. The service is similar to a community concierge practice.

Required Qualifications


  • At least three (3) years of LVN experience
  • Graduation from an approved LVN program
  • Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) License
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Clinical knowledge to effectively supervise LVNs. Skills to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a clinic, center or practice
  • Solid knowledge of LVN patient care standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies
  • Working knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and apply effective solutions
  • Solid interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and problem solving with all levels of management and staff
  • Skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner
  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments

Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • At least one (1) year LVN Supervisor experience

License/Certification


  • Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) License
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
