Respiratory Therap-Transport PRN

Job Summary

Assessment, stabilization, and treatment of patients before and during interfacility transport. Acts independently and proficiently to perform all advanced respiratory therapy general and critical care\u00A0 procedures in accordance with the physician\u2019s order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols.

Accountabilities

  • \u00A0Performs assessment, stabilization, and treatment of patients before and during interfacility transport in ambulance or helicopter. Acts independently and proficiently to perform all advanced respiratory therapy general and critical care\u00A0 procedures in accordance with the physician\u2019s order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols.\u00A0 25%

  • Performs airway maintenance including: proper use of manual resuscitators, oral and nasal pharyngeal airway insertion, intubations/extubations, perform tracheostomy change. Accurately and completely documents charting.\u00A0 Initiates, maintains, transports and monitors mechanical ventilators to include conventional and non-conventional modes of ventilation. 20%

  • Able to obtain blood gases from all sites.\u00A0 Analyzes and reports results accurately. Performs blood gas analyzer quality control and maintenance as needed. Initiates umbilical venous catheter insertion. Independently initiates, monitors, and manages all types of airway and associated equipment to include advanced invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.10%

  • Accurately and completely documents patient care and provides patient and family education as appropriate.10%

  • Effectively communicates well with all members of the health care team.\u00A0 Provides a complete and accurate report to Medical Control. Makes recommendations to medical directors during transports as appropriate. 10%

  • Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives.\u00A0 Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status.10%

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor\u2019s degree- Respiratory Therapy or other related field and a graduate of a school for Respiratory Therapy approved by the American Medical Association or a successor accrediting authority.
  • 3 years - Experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, with PICU NICU experience.

In Lieu of

In Lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above, an Associates Degree and 5 years relevant experience

Required Certifications Registrations, Licenses

  • BLS , RRT.NBRC credentials must be maintained.
  • Certification required may include any or all of the following depending on the unit: ACLS,NRP, PALS.

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

  • Knowledge in\u00A0multiple Ventilators, Jet ventilator, Nitric delivery system
