Position Summary

Assist clients at their point of need in The Social Service Department.

Essential Functions



  • Greet individuals as they enter the building.
  • Ascertain how we can be of assistance.
  • Make copies of all needed documents.
  • Prepare Salvation Army food boxes.
  • Prepare "FEMA" food boxes.
  • Issue "TFEP" government commodities.
  • Issue Vouchers as needed (i.e., motel, transportation, utility assistance, Furniture) rental assistance, clothing.
  • Give direction and follow-through to volunteers.
  • Responsible for surplus product distribution.
  • Make monthly reports as required.
  • Enter data into computer as required.
  • Be friendly and sincere in all duties.
  • Follow Budget restrictions.
  • Inform Administration of needed food items.
  • Collect product donations as they come In.
  • Other duties may be required.


Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 Pounds.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Must be able to follow written and verbal directions in English.
  • Must have a knowledge of the needs of social Services.
  • Must have a sense of confidence in dealing with clients.
  • Must have teachable computer skills.
  • Bilingual in English/ Spanish helpful but not necessary.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to supervise volunteers.
  • CA driver License helpful but not necessary.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities



  • Knowledge and Sensitivity regarding issues of homelessness, mental health and chronic illness
  • Complete required Salvation Army trainings (decision driving, Child Safety Training (PTM), etc.
  • Ability, both visual and auditory, to identify safety hazards and monitor guest and staff behavior and enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures.
