Executive Director of Academic Department Administration

Description The University of California Los Angeles seeks a strategic, highly accomplished leader to join one of the prestigious academic institutions in the nation as the Director of Academic Department Administration of the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM).
The DGSOM is comprised of 24 academic departments, 5 organized research units, and 5 interdisciplinary research centers and is the academic home to approximately 3200 faculty and 2500 trainees, students and fellows. The DGSOM employs about 6200 staff and non-faculty academics. The DGSOM's annual revenue totals approximately $2.8B, its expendable net assets approx. $1.3B and its endowments and quasi endowments approximately $1.5B.
In this role, you will provide leadership and direction for the financial and administrative operations of various academic departments when those departments are without permanent administrative leadership. You will focus on positioning and supporting each of those departments to continue to grow and prosper.
You will be responsible for ensuring the success and efficient operation of various complex academic departments with multiple divisions and large faculty bases. Oversee budgets of hundreds of millions of dollars per department and ensures financial sustainability and appropriate financial growth. You will be responsible for the success of multiple teams of staff of varying size.
This is an important leadership role for an administrative and business executive who is skilled at managing a large, complex academic departments and who appreciates the importance of collegial decision making and matrixed leadership.
This leadership position will serve as a change agent in advancing and optimizing the administrative infrastructure of the school.
Annual Salary Range: $131,100.00 - $323,700.00
Qualifications Required:
Master's degree (BA, Health Care Administration, Public health or related field) or combination of education and relevant experience. Seven+ years of progressively responsible managerial and leadership experience. Senior management experience in a large, complex integrated health sciences system and university setting.
Strong and broad knowledge of opportunities for and challenges facing the clinical, education, and research components of an academic health organization.
Evidence of ability to work in a dynamic matrix environment and to engender cooperation and collaboration.
Extensive experience leading large change management projects and the ability to obtain buy-in and active participation from stakeholders across the organization.
Evidence of ability to establish priorities and to achieve results in a multi-purpose, multi-unit, multi-site system. Leadership skills as evidenced by one who possesses broad vision of the future of the organization; assertiveness and diplomacy in the presentation of ideas and initiatives, sensitivity to the values and expectations of all constituents.
Evidence of a management style that inspires a drive to achieving excellence, collegiality, teamwork, participation, communication, and a service orientation.
Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze all pertinent information/data to make and communicate executive level recommendations and decisions.
Exceptional negotiation and effective interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to establish a culture of integrity and accountability.
