Position Summary

The Seasonal Assistant position is expected to assist the Service Center Manager with the operations, logistics and supervision of the Christmas Campaigns, including but not limited to the Red Kettle Campaign, toy drives, and Angel Tree Programs.

Essential Functions

Assist the Service Center Manager in the following seasonal duties:

Kettles



  • Help recruit and schedule volunteer kettle workers, making reminder calls as needed.
  • Assist in the counting and reporting of kettle funds, including input of daily kettle income into Kettle Manager.
  • Distribute and pickup Kettle Stands and Kettles as requested.
  • Help promote and secure virtual kettle campaign.


Toy Programs



  • Help coordinate the KSBY Season of Hope locations where toys are delivered.
  • Communicate regularly and efficiently with business owners regarding donated toys.
  • Maintain a log of all toy/food donations accounted for.
  • Distribute and pick up barrels as requested.


Christmas Program



  • Help with the intake and processing of families for Christmas Assistance.
  • Assist other service center units (Atascadero, Morro Bay, and Arroyo Grande) locations if/when needed.
  • Maintain statistics and Record Data into Wellsky Program as required.


Working Conditions



  • Location of work can fluctuate depending on need.
  • Must be in good physical health and mental health, capable of meeting the demand of the position.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Must have basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Driving Test and clean MVR Check (if applicable).
  • Current California driver's license.
  • A criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
  • Ability to engage and diffuse crisis situations.
  • Data management and reporting skills (Preferred).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills (bilingual English/Spanish preferred).
  • Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The Salvation Army.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Must be in good physical health and mental health, capable of meeting the demand of the position.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities



  • Administrative skills in computers, record keeping, and organization.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of information as appropriate.
  • Ability to interact effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds (e.g., age, gender, race/ethnicity, abilities, etc.)
  • Ability to support the mission statement of The Salvation Army.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective and professional working relationships with leadership, coworkers, clients, and community.
  • Ability to analyze problems and reach acceptable and workable solutions.
  • Complete required Salvation Army trainings (decision driving, PTM, etc.) and recommended trainings.
