Description The laboratory operates within the Department of Neurology in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The lab's focus is on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of alpha-synuclein and tau related neurodegenerative diseases including but not limited to Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and multiple system atrophy. We develop cutting edge disease models and apply powerful genetic, multi-omics and high through-put screen methods to investigate a wide range of topics related to the development and progression of this group of diseases. We are particularly interested in the transmission and conformational diversity of pathological proteins in the central nervous system and the role of neuron-glial interactions in this process.
The Lab Assistant will assist with management of the lab related to neurodegenerative diseases. Management of the lab involves reagents and equipment and other paper work related with the daily operation of the lab. Training will be an ongoing feature of this position. This position require some exposure to hospital and laboratory environments, mandatory attendance at lab meetings and reporting to the Principal Investigator. This role requires a mature and highly organized individual with strong communication skills, experiment skills and a willingness to learn.
Pay Range: $18.67 - $21.61 Hourly
Qualifications All Strongly Preferred:
Bachelor of Science in biological sciences or engineering (pre-med)
Responsible, reliable, detail-oriented, able to follow instructions, able to work both
independently and in a team setting with excellent organizational and follow through skills
Ability to lift 30 pounds safely
An interest and experience in neurodegenerative disease research
Strong oral and written communication skills
Be highly organized
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Ability to follow directions and prioritize work assignments to perform efficiently under
changing workloads and competing demands
Ability to obtain and follow detailed safety requirements related to clinical and laboratory
procedures as set forth in federal, state and University guidelines
Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, ZOOM Meeting, &
Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft SQL, (not required but a plus)
This position require some exposure to hospital and laboratory environment
