The Smith College School for Social Work invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position with the rank open to candidates at the assistant, associate and full professor ranks. Appointments will be made at a level appropriate to the qualifications and track record of the successful applicant. Rank and salary will be commensurate with expertise and experience. Appointments will begin June 1st, 2024. The school operates with a block program in which students attend a condensed program of courses in Northampton in the summer months (June- August) and complete field training across the country between September- April. Therefore, faculty are expected to teach courses only in the summer months, while advising, committee work and school activities remain busy but flexible throughout the year and allow for remote residency.

Qualifications

Candidates for this position should demonstrate expertise that advances practice, theory, and policy in the field of clinical social work to address the needs of historically marginalized communities. We seek candidates with a program of research and teaching expertise in clinical social work practice with children and adolescents, with a focus on work with BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other Persons of Color) and/or other marginalized communities, and a preference for creative and innovative approaches to this work. We are seeking candidates whose research, teaching, service, and leadership will advance our mission of excellence in clinical social work education through a racial and social justice lens. A master's degree from a CSWE-accredited school of social work and a doctoral degree in social work or a closely related field are required. Five years of practice experience and license eligibility preferred.

Junior scholars will have a promising, emerging program of research relevant to clinical social work practice with children and adolescents, with a focus on practice with BIPOC and/or other marginalized communities, the pernicious impact of racism, anti-Blackness, and oppression and will show promise for developing innovative approaches to clinical social work practice that advances racial and social justice. A record of successful teaching experience is required.

Senior scholars will have an established program of research, a record of published work, and demonstrated excellence in teaching relevant to clinical social work practice with children and adolescents, with a focus on practice with BIPOC and/or other marginalized communities, the pernicious impact of racism, anti-Blackness, and oppression and will show promise for developing innovative approaches to clinical social work practice that advances racial and social justice. A record of leadership in administration and in the mentoring of junior colleagues is preferred.

Smith College School for Social Work faculty have expertise in relationally-based, culturally responsive practice that is firmly grounded in a synthesis of psychological and social theories. The curriculum is designed to educate students on the provision of effective clinical social work services with diverse communities in agency settings as well as with vulnerable and underserved populations. The program is known for its intensive field internships based across the United States and offers both an MSW and Ph.D. The School works actively to improve its anti-racism practice in all aspects of its programs; faculty members are expected to actively contribute to this aspiration. Faculty generally teach 2-4 courses during that time, with a workload policy that allows substitution of administrative and advising responsibilities so that each faculty's preferences and needs define their workload. New scholars are given start-up research funding upon entry into the School, and small grants are eligible to faculty for research and conferences on a yearly basis.
