Scientist - In Vivo, Hematology

at Keros Therapeutics

Lexington, Massachusetts, United States

Keros Therapeutics is a public, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of novel treatments for patients suffering from hematological and musculoskeletal disorders with high unmet medical need. We are a leader in understanding the role of the transforming growth factor-beta, or TGF-, family of proteins, which are master regulators of red blood cell and platelet production as well as of the growth, repair and maintenance of muscle and bone. We have leveraged this understanding and developed a discovery approach to generate large and small molecules to address diseases of these tissues. Targeting TGF- signaling pathways has been clinically proven to elicit robust changes in blood cells, muscle, and bone, which we believe provides a precedent and strong rationale for our strategy.

We are seeking a motivated Scientist to join our dynamic, fast-paced preclinical research group. This position will play a pivotal role in increasing our understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of action of our molecules in dysregulated iron homeostasis and hematologic disease. The successful candidate must be scientifically motivated and independent, have excellent communication skills, and be comfortable working in a dynamic and cross-functional team environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, plan, and execute in vivo pharmacology studies to evaluate efficacy, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, tolerability, and mechanism of action of drug candidates
  • Perform in vivo and ex vivo analysis to help broaden our understanding of how our therapeutic leads mechanistically mediate their biological actions
  • Coordinate in vivo and in vitro teams to design and execute mechanism of action experiments
  • Identify, initiate and oversee internal model development or external collaborations with academic labs and CROs
  • Effectively communicate experimental findings in oral, written, and visual formats.
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Analyze and present scientific data, engage colleagues in cross-disciplinary scientific discussion, and stay abreast of relevant scientific literature
  • Build/lead a small team of research associates and mentor/train junior research staff

Qualifications:

  • PhD with 5 years relevant post-degree experience, Masters with 8-10 years industry experience or Bachelors with >10 years industry experience; background in hematology and hematological disorders is preferred
  • Experience designing and planning in vivo pharmacology studies is required
  • Proficient in animal handling, dosing (IV, IP, PO), blood collection, and tissue harvesting
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques (cell culture, ELISA, qPCR, western blot, etc.) and assay development required
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong communication, presentation, and project management skills
  • Experience managing junior associates is a plus
