CLASS TITLE: EXTRA PAY FOR EXTRA DUTY

Definition

Under the supervision of the principal or designee, persons appointed to serve in the capacity of coach,
instructor, adviser in the areas listed in the negotiated agreement between the District and the Teachers'
Association shall perform the duties listed below and meet all necessary state and district qualifications for
the assigned position.

APPOINTMENT

Prior to the commencement of the activity to be supervised, these employees shall be appointed by the
principal with the approval of the Assistant Superintendent of Personnel to serve as short term temporary
employees. This appointment is dependent upon the needs of the district and the availability of qualified
staff.

ASSESSMENT

Persons holding these positions shall receive feedback from the principal or designee assessing the
program. This assessment may be based on multiple sources of data including feedback from students and
parents.

EXPECTED DUTY/ PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Demonstrated an understanding of and ability to teach the skills and knowledge required for students to
progress and be successful in the identified activity.

Establishes philosophies and goals for the program which are consistent with the educational mission of
the district and the school. Effectively communicates the program philosophies and goals to students and
parents.

Follows district, league, school and professional policies, procedures, rules of conduct, and regulations.

Organizes and keep records pursuant to school policies and needs.

Develops and effectively monitors a budget for the activity of assignment in accordance with all ASB and
district accounting procedures.

Serves as a model for and teaches the ideals of ethical conduct, personal responsibility, mutual respect,
fairness, and appreciation for diversity.

Develops and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with supervisors, colleagues,
students, parents, and the community.

Works cooperatively with the principal and his/her designee.

Effectively communicates high expectation for student performance in each activity.

Effectively plans all activities and holds self as well as students accountable for meeting high performance
standards.

Sets high standards for student behavior and academic performance in accordance with school
expectations. Clearly communicates those standards and enforces consistent consequences for failing to
meet those standards. Effectively supervises student behavior before, during and after an activity wherein
students are representing the organization of the activity and the school.

Develops plans and methods to monitor inventory, set schedules, determine eligibility, excuse students,
monitor student and organizational progress, and otherwise arrange the logistics to ensure smooth
operation of the assigned activity and accountability.

Performs other duties as assigned by the administration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
* School environment; may be outdoors or off campus
* Work under pressure of deadlines and time constraints
* May be subject to discourteous students or parents
* May be required to work at night
* May be required to possess and be willing to use personal vehicle in the course of duties

Licenses and other requirements:
* Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance
* Evidence of TB clearance
* First Aid and CPR certification for athletic coaches

If required to operate a vehicle:
* Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License
* Acceptable driving record and qualification for insurability by the District's insurance carrier
