The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation's naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy's submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since 1946. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory has nearly 8,000 employees working at primary locations in Pennsylvania, New York, South Carolina, and Idaho. Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to work at our Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL) site in Niskayuna, NY!

Electrical Engineers at NNL are engaged throughout their career in the design, development, deployment, analysis, troubleshooting, and testing of electrical systems associated with power electronics, laboratory test facilities, and site electrical infrastructure. This diversity in job opportunities provides NNL Electrical Engineers with challenging work and a means to continue gaining technical skills and broadening their experience throughout their career.

This position will support analysis, design, maintenance, and safe operation of the Site electrical distribution system. This Electrical Engineer will also utilize their expertise to team with testing and analytical stakeholders to ensure continuity of service and crucial execution of Laboratory deliverables.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years of relevant experience; OR
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills

  • Medium and Low Voltage Distribution Systems
  • Building Automation Systems and Controls
  • Site networked metering systems
  • Short Circuit, Load Flow, Protective Device Coordination, and Arc Flash Analysis
  • NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E
