The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation's naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy's submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since 1946. Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to join our growing software development team. NNL develops the world's best nuclear propulsion systems, trains Sailors to operate them, and provides full lifecycle support, from technology development through design to disposal. As a software developer, you will be part of a team that creates client/server and web-based in-house applications that are installed onboard Navy submarines and aircraft carriers. You will play a primary role in the design, development, implementation, test, management, and maintenance of these applications. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: developing high quality code, remediating vulnerabilities according to cybersecurity principles, performing thorough unit testing with attention to detail, and publishing engineering documentation including architectural diagrams and technical specifications.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of nine years of relevant experience or;
MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience or;
Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II qualified or qualified SIT and three years as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program or Current or previous CRE Qualification, or six years as SRE, or SRE qualified with nine years of experience
Preferred Skills


  1. Experience with one or more of the following: C#, Java, C++, SQL, PL/SQL, and/or web development.






  1. Expertise in software engineering practices and software lifecycle models.






  1. Experience with Dev/Ops environments and Continuous Integration strategies.






  1. Experience in developing automated unit tests.






  1. Familiarity with database architectures.
