The Project Manager is responsible for independently managing smaller or less complex government-funded projects, including ownership of timelines, coordination, and day-to-day execution. This role ensures projects are delivered in alignment with contractual and operational requirements by actively managing progress, risks, and communication with stakeholders. The Project Manager may also support execution of larger programs by managing defined workstreams under the direction of senior project or program leadership.
Responsibilities
- Project Execution and Delivery
- Independently manages execution of smaller or less complex projects from initiation through completion.
- Develops and maintains project plans, timelines, and trackers to ensure delivery of project objectives.
- Monitors progress against plan, identifies deviations, and takes action to keep project work on track.
- Drives follow-up with team members to ensure timely completion of deliverables and milestones.
- May support execution of larger or more complex programs by managing defined workstreams under senior leadership.
- Cross-Functional Coordination and Leadership
- Leads coordination across cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on project priorities, timelines, and responsibilities.
- Facilitates project meetings and ensures clear outcomes, decisions, and next steps.
- Communicates project status, risks, and updates to internal stakeholders and supports communication to clients through program leadership.
- Financial and Operational Management
- Manages project budgets for assigned projects, including tracking spend, maintaining forecasts, and identifying variances.
- Works with project control and leadership to address financial risks and ensure alignment with project expectations.
- Identifies financial variances or risks and works with leadership to address them.
- Ensures project execution aligns with financial and operational expectations.
- Risk and Issue Management
- Identifies and manages project risks, issues, and gaps in execution.
- Develops and drives mitigation actions and ensures follow-through to resolution.
- Escalates complex or high-impact risks with context and recommended actions.
- Tools, Systems, and Process Execution
- Develops and maintains project tracking tools, timelines, and reporting structures.
- Ensures accuracy and consistency of project data across tracking and reporting.
- Applies and reinforces standard processes and tools across project work.
- Contract and Compliance
- Ensures project execution aligns with contract scope, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
- Tracks contractual deliverables and ensures timely completion and submission.
- PMO and Team Contribution
- Participates in PMO initiatives and contributes to process improvements.
- Shares lessons learned and supports consistency across projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Complies with all policies and standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Scientific discipline or equivalent experience. Required
- 4-6 years experience in project management, coordination, or related roles. Required
- 4-6 years Experience independently managing smaller or less complex projects or work streams, including ownership of timelines, deliverables, and coordination. Required
- 4-6 years Experience managing or supporting project budgets, including tracking spend, forecasting, and identifying variances. Required
- 4-6 years Experience identifying and resolving project risks, issues, or delays within defined scope. Required
- 4-6 years Experience working in cross-functional team environments with accountability for outcomes. Required
- PMP certification or obtained within 12 months of hire. Required
- Experience in clinical research, government contracts, or regulated environments. Preferred
- Strong project management and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and workstreams. High
- Ability to independently plan, organize, and manage project activities within defined scope. High
- Ability to take ownership of project execution and drive work through completion across teams. High
- Ability to identify risks, gaps, and issues and take action to resolve within defined scope. High
- Understanding of core project management principles, including scope, schedule, cost, and risk management. High
- Ability to manage project budgets at a basic level, including tracking spend, maintaining forecasts, and identifying variances. High
- Strong communication skills with ability to clearly convey project status, risks, and decisions to internal stakeholders. High
- Ability to lead coordination across cross-functional teams and drive alignment. High
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions within defined scope. High
- Ability to adjust plans and priorities based on changing project needs. High
- Proficiency with project tracking and workflow tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Microsoft Project). High
