Sub System Functional Designer

Stellantis
United States, Michigan, Auburn Hills
Nov 06, 2026

Mission context:

Within the mechatronics systems engineering team, a strongly changing technical domain due to technological evolutions (electrification, connectivity), increasing regulatory constraints, new customer expectations and quality-cost challenges.

Hierarchically attached to the head of the team MSCE (Mechatronic Sub-systems Core Engineering), in charge of Cabin, Visibility, Carbody Access sub-systems (exterior lighting, wiping, washing, interior lighting, seat postural comfort, restraint means, power closure systems, etc.)

Functionally attached to one of the Sub-System Architects of the domain.

Mission description:

In collaboration with the other actors of the subsystem organization: system architects, geometry, electronics, component designers, safety engineer; as well as the various stakeholders of the subsystem: services, quality, project, etc., the functional designer:

  • Supports the design of part of the subsystem according to the partitioning defined by the subsystem architect.
  • Designs, from a functional and dysfunctional point of view, its subsystem (block diagram, sequence diagram, activity diagram) to achieve the best compromise, based on feedback from the components layer (including diversity/complexity), within the framework of the design groups.
  • Negotiates, then breaks down and defines the functional requirements
  • participates in functional and dysfunctional design arbitrations (QCTP method).
  • specifies the control of its functional scope, develop algorithms (text, model).
  • guarantees the availability and the quality of the deliverables.
  • Expected autonomy based on experience and status.
  • Main deliverable: Sub-system functional specifications, quarterly.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics engineering or equivalent field
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in automotive R&D
  • Knowledge of HW and SW electronics
  • Good quality of oral and written expression
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an international environment
  • Curiosity, rigor, spirit of synthesis
  • Quality assurance mindset

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in engineering or equivalent acquired through experience
  • Experience in functional design, sub-system architecture
  • Experience in modeling, simulation of sub-systems
