Why Do We Need You?

  • Manage, coach, and develop the payroll team, fostering accountability, cross-training, knowledge sharing, process documentation, and business continuity.

  • Ensure payroll tax compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and Canadian regulations, including tax filings, reconciliations, year-end reporting, and statutory requirements.

  • Strengthen payroll governance and internal controls, maintaining SOX compliance, supporting internal and external audits, and proactively identifying and mitigating payroll-related risks.

  • Lead payroll transformation projects, including system implementations, vendor transitions, process redesign, automation initiatives, and changes to payroll operations.

  • Oversee payroll systems and integrations, ensuring accurate data flow between payroll, time and attendance, HRIS, and financial systems while resolving operational and technical issues.

  • Manage relationships with payroll vendors and cross-functional stakeholders, partnering with HR, Finance, Accounting, IT, and external service providers to resolve escalations and improve service delivery.

  • Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency, establishing standardized processes, monitoring payroll performance, identifying opportunities for optimization, and supporting scalable payroll operations.

What Do You Need to Succeed?

  • Strong knowledge of US multi-state payroll processing, including hourly and salaried populations, overtime, shift differentials, multiple pay frequencies, and complex payroll calculations.

  • Expertise in US payroll taxation and compliance, including federal, state, and local tax regulations, tax filings, reconciliations, W-2 reporting, and year-end payroll activities.

  • Hands-on proficiency with ADP or SAP Payroll, including payroll processing, troubleshooting, reporting, and system integrations.

  • Proven ability to lead payroll teams, manage operational priorities, develop team capabilities, and maintain payroll accuracy in complex business environments.

  • Experience leading payroll system implementations, migrations, process improvements, and large-scale transformation initiatives.

  • Knowledge of payroll accounting, general ledger reconciliations, internal controls, SOX compliance, and payroll audits.

  • Experience managing time and attendance systems, payroll data integrations, vendor relationships, and cross-functional payroll processes.

  • Strong understanding of payroll operations in complex, multi-location organizations, particularly those with large hourly workforces.

  • Familiarity with Canadian payroll regulations, statutory deductions, payroll processing, and vendor management is highly valued.

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or equivalent demonstrated payroll expertise is strongly preferred.
