Description The opportunity Syneos Health is seeking an enterprise-minded Executive Director of Business Development to create and accelerate growth across the full breadth of our Commercial Services and Solutions. This executive-facing role requires a proven commercial leader who can shape demand, advise biopharmaceutical decision-makers on consequential business issues, and mobilize the right capabilities across Syneos Health to solve complex commercialization challenges. The successful candidate will build trusted relationships before an opportunity is defined, influence client strategy, lead high-value pursuits, and expand partnerships across brands, markets, and the commercial lifecycle. What you will do
- Own growth across a focused portfolio of strategic U.S. and global biopharmaceutical accounts, establishing multi-year account strategies that connect enterprise priorities to integrated Syneos Health capabilities.
- Create and shape material opportunities across the commercial lifecycle, including launch and pre-launch strategy, field and deployment solutions, omnichannel engagement, patient and provider services, market access, communications, analytics, consulting, and commercial operations.
- Set an insight-led growth agenda. Translate market, portfolio, customer, competitive, access, and operating-model signals into distinctive points of view that open senior-level conversations and create urgency for change.
- Build and expand durable relationships with C-suite executives and senior leaders across Commercial, Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Medical, Patient Services, Procurement, Operations, Digital, Data, and Finance.
- Act as the senior commercial orchestrator for priority pursuits, aligning executive sponsors, subject-matter experts, solution leaders, finance, legal, and delivery teams around one client strategy, differentiated value proposition, and executable solution.
- Lead complex, high-value opportunities from executive discovery through solution design, proposal, negotiation, and contracting, preserving deal quality, delivery confidence, commercial discipline, and clear mutual commitments.
- Expand strategic relationships by developing enterprise roadmaps, identifying adjacent needs, connecting capabilities, and demonstrating measurable value after the initial engagement.
- Own the quality and credibility of account, pipeline, relationship, and forecast information; use data and rigorous qualification to drive resource allocation, prioritization, and accountability.
- Represent the voice of the customer in senior internal forums and influence solution innovation, go-to-market priorities, partnerships, investment choices, and competitive positioning.
- Elevate enterprise selling capability by mentoring colleagues, sharing market intelligence, strengthening executive messaging, and modeling disciplined pursuit leadership.
The market you will help clients navigate Commercial leaders are rethinking how they launch and grow brands amid pricing and access pressure, constrained budgets, portfolio complexity, loss of exclusivity, rapid advances in data and AI, and higher expectations for personalized stakeholder engagement. Success increasingly requires connected, flexible solutions rather than an isolated service sale. The strongest candidate will be able to sell into this change by:
- Connecting strategy to execution and showing how integrated capabilities reduce fragmentation and accelerate impact.
- Framing AI, analytics, and automation as practical enablers of better decisions, productivity, personalization, and measurement within appropriate governance.
- Designing flexible commercial models for emerging biotech, specialty and rare disease, established brands, and large global portfolios.
- Helping clients orchestrate coordinated in-person and digital engagement across healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers, payers, and health systems.
- Building value cases with defined outcomes, operating measures, assumptions, and a credible path to implementation.
What success looks like
- A durable, high-value pipeline with strong executive sponsorship, rigorous qualification, and alignment to priority accounts and Syneos Health growth areas.
- New and expanded strategic partnerships that span multiple executive stakeholders, brands, markets, and capabilities.
- Enterprise win strategies that clearly connect client priorities, differentiated solutions, measurable commercial value, and delivery confidence.
- Forecasts, growth plans, and investment recommendations that are evidence-based and trusted by senior leadership and solution partners.
- A reputation as a market-facing growth leader who elevates client dialogue, strengthens enterprise collaboration, and makes sound, decisive commercial choices.
What you bring
- At least 12 years of progressive experience in life sciences, including significant leadership in business development, commercial consulting, commercialization services, strategic accounts, sales, marketing, market access, operations, or related roles.
- A sustained record of originating, shaping, negotiating, and closing high-value, complex B2B solutions with senior biopharmaceutical decision-makers.
- Boardroom-level executive presence and business acumen, with the judgment to earn credibility quickly, challenge assumptions constructively, and communicate a concise, differentiated point of view.
- Advanced consultative discovery and value-creation skills, with the ability to uncover explicit and unspoken needs, quantify business impact, and align senior stakeholders around a client-supported path forward.
- Experience leading enterprise pursuits and mobilizing cross-functional solutions involving multiple capabilities, stakeholders, geographies, commercial models, and delivery teams.
- Demonstrated command of strategic account planning, opportunity qualification, pipeline governance, forecasting, negotiation, and customer relationship management discipline.
- Deep understanding of evolving biopharmaceutical commercial models, including specialty and rare disease, omnichannel engagement, data and analytics, market access, patient services, and outsourced or flexible field solutions.
- Comfort leading through ambiguity and change, with sound judgment, disciplined prioritization, resilience, and a bias for action.
- A collaborative, low-ego leadership style that brings the best of the enterprise to the client, creates alignment across senior stakeholders, and maintains clear ownership of outcomes.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in business, life sciences, or a related field preferred.
Differentiators
- Leadership experience in enterprise solution selling, strategic accounts, or commercial transformation within a services, consulting, agency, technology, or outsourcing environment.
- An established network of senior biopharmaceutical commercial leaders and a demonstrated ability to build new executive relationships quickly.
- Experience advising clients on launches, portfolio strategy, commercialization for emerging companies, or lifecycle growth programs.
- Experience translating analytics, AI-enabled tools, and digital platforms into practical commercial strategy, engagement, productivity, and measurement use cases.
- Experience leading teams, mentoring senior sellers, or building enterprise selling capability is highly valued; prior field sales leadership is helpful when paired with broader consultative experience.
