Position Highlights

The University of Arizona School of Dance seeks Part-Time Adjunct Instructor(s) beginning January 13, 2027.

As a nationally recognized dance program at a public research university, we welcome applicants with expertise across a broad spectrum of dance and movement practices. We are particularly seeking candidates with expertise in Pilates, with additional experience in one or more of the following areas welcomed: Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Ballroom, Tap, Pointe, Choreography, yoga, and other related movement practices.

The successful candidate will teach studio practice and/or lecture courses within their area(s) of expertise and may have opportunities to create performance or choreographic work. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to student-centered teaching and contribute to the mission and academic community of the University of Arizona School of Dance.

The School of Dance fosters a student-centered learning environment that encourages problem-solving, critical thinking, and conceptual analysis skills. We maintain a unique focus on performance, choreography, and pedagogy to prepare students for professional careers. The School of Dance is part of the Arizona Arts division, which serves as a gateway to visual and performing arts experiences, programs, and assets on the University of Arizona (U of A) campus. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach all
    levels of studio courses, with primary consideration given to candidates
    with expertise in Pilates. Additional areas
    may include Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Ballroom, Tap, Choreography,
    Ballet/Pointe, and related dance and movement practices.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students through studio instruction,
    choreographic processes, and academic or professional development.
  • Teach
    courses within the candidate's area(s) of
    expertise, which may include:

    - Dance
    Technique/Studio Courses, including Pilates, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary,
    Ballroom, Tap, Choreography, and Ballet/Pointe.
    - Choreographic
    Pedagogy and Mentoring
    - Improvisational
    Forms
    - Music and
    Dance Collaboration
    - Business/Careers
    in Dance
    - Dance
    History, including non-Western histories
    - General
    Education and Academic Lecture Courses, in-person and/or online
    - Dance
    Technology and Digital Media

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated
    ability to implement innovative pedagogies and effective classroom
    strategies that foster meaningful and impactful learning experiences.
  • Ability to
    cultivate an engaged, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that
    encourages personal growth and artistic development.
  • Strong
    pedagogical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated
    expertise and professional experience in Pilates and/or other relevant dance or
    movement practices.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree and or Master's degree
    in Dance, related discipline or Equivalent Professional Dance Experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching dance in an academic setting or intensive dance training environment.

Special Instructions to Applicant Please submit your Curriculum Vitae (CV) and Cover Letter and one teaching video. The teaching video should show you working with advanced or intermediate dancers.

Video should demonstrate ability to deliver:


1. An effective warm up.

2. Informed corrections and communication skills.

3. Movement exercises that are appropriate to the level.

4. A progression and adaptation of content that is made clear to students and evident to the review committee.
