Adjunct Theatre Instructor: Voice & Speech

The Bunker Hill Community College Performing Arts Department is seeking a dedicated and experienced Adjunct Instructor of Theatre to teach a Thursday 10:00am-12:45pm section of THR 142: Voice & Speech (3 credits) in Spring 2027. The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping students develop vocal techniques that enhance performance and character work.

Course Description:

A performance technique class, this course concentrates on sensing, freeing and developing the voice as an aspect of identity and as a fundamental tool of the actor. Through individual and ensemble exercises, students explore alignment of the body, breathing, resonance, articulation, and text work. Students use this foundational understanding of vocal mechanics to build a healthy, agile, and expressive voice for the stage. Reflective journaling, recordings, and presentations allow students to intentionally navigate their personal vocal development.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Deliver engaging and comprehensive instruction in voice and speech for the actor, emphasizing vocal production and expressive communication.
  • Lead studio-based vocal training that develops vocal strength, flexibility, clarity, breath control, and clarity.
  • Support students in integrating vocal and speech techniques into acting, character development, and performance projects.


Minimum Requirements:



  • MA or MFA in Theatre or a related field, plus professional performance experience.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students in a diverse and collaborative academic environment.
  • Expertise in actor movement pedagogies, physical theatre, or related movement disciplines (e.g., Viewpoints, Laban, Suzuki, Lecoq, or stage combat).


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Demonstrated training or certification in a recognized vocal pedagogy.
  • Professional theatre vocal coaching experience.
  • College-level teaching experience.


Additional Information:

Salary: $1,512.00 per credit hour
