DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Air Quality District Supervisor supports the successful operation of air quality programs across the Northcentral Region. This role ensures consistent oversight, staff guidance, and coordination of field and administrative activities. As a Air Quality District Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Program Leadership: Guide staff in carrying out air quality inspections, data reviews, and regulatory duties
  • Staff Oversight: Direct hiring, training, evaluations, and scheduling to support effective team performance
  • Regulatory Compliance: Review work for accuracy, ensure policies are followed, and oversee enforcement actions
  • Technical Review: Evaluate reports, inspection findings, and permit activities to support sound environmental decisions
  • Community Coordination: Share information with the public, local officials, and stakeholders about air quality matters
  • Emergency Response: Support actions during environmental incidents to protect the public and minimize impacts

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel required to and from inspection sites
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Williamsport. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $69,086.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as an Air Quality Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of experience as an Air Monitoring Program Supervisor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of professional work in the control and abatement of air pollution and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or an environmental field closely related to Air Quality Management; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and/or training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

Other Requirements:

  • You must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport for this position. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
