Job Description:

The Math and Science Academic Interventionist delivers targeted instruction to strengthen core STEM competencies across elementargrade levels. In this dual-focused role, you will provide foundational Math Intervention for Kindergarten through 5th Grade and Science Instruction (Remediation & Enrichment) for 4th and 5th Grade.

This person will participate in division-level professional development in order to learn expectations for the purpose of alignment of division initiatives. Additionally, the Interventionist will learn and implement the most effective research-based pedagogical and content strategies. The ideal candidate leverages student data to diagnose skill gaps, creates engaging hands-on experiences, leads schoolwide family science initiatives, and collaborates with classroom teachers to accelerate student achievement. This is an 10-month, 195 day Licensed position, reporting to the School Principal.

Qualifications:



  • Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, Mathematics, Science, or a related field, A Master's degree preferred.


  • Certification/License: A Valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching Provisional, Collegiate, or PostGraduate License, with an endorsement in Elementary Education PreK-5.


  • Experience:



    • Minimum of 3 years of teaching or intervention experience in elementary education (K-5 experience preferred).
    • Knowledge of effective instructional practices in education for diverse learners, across races and ethnicities, including English Learners, students with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged students.
    • Knowledge of, and commitment to, implementing the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) or similar systems of student support.
    • Knowledge and experience administering diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments to target specific skills and concepts.
    • Demonstrate leadership, organizational skills, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others.
    • Experience with research-proven interventions focused specifically on individual student needs.
    • Experience with progress monitoring, data analysis, and documentation of student progress in order to inform instruction.
    • Ability to reflect on instruction and student progress in order to plan for instructional adjustment
    • Experience organizing schoolwide events such as science fairs or STEM nights is a plus.




Key Competencies:



  • Strong knowledge of early and upper-elementary math progressions (K-5), expertise in upper-elementary science standards (4th-5th), and familiarity with MTSS/RTI frameworks.



Key Responsibilities:

K-5 Math Intervention



  • Deliver targeted, research-based math interventions in small group or push-in settings for students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade.
  • Build foundational numeracy, place value, and problem-solving skills tailored to developmental levels from early childhood through upper elementary.
  • Use diagnostic assessments and progress-monitoring tools to adjust support plans and track growth over time.


4th & 5th Grade Science Instruction (Remediation & Enrichment)



  • Design and execute hands-on, inquiry-based science lessons specifically for 4th and 5th-grade students.
  • Differentiate instruction to support struggling learners with core concepts while offering high-interest STEM extension projects for advanced students.
  • Incorporate interactive lab experiments, scientific inquiry methods, and real-world applications into daily teaching.


Data Management & MTSS Collaboration



  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, benchmark data, and intervention logs.
  • Collaborate regularly with K-5 classroom teachers to align intervention goals with grade-level pacing.
  • Active participation in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) / Response to Intervention (RTI) team meetings to evaluate student progress across grade bands.


Family & School Community Engagement



  • Plan, organize, and lead family science engagement events (e.g., Family Science Night, STEM Workshops) and manage the annual school Science Fair.
  • Communicate progress regularly with parents and guardians, offering actionable home support strategies.
  • Foster a positive, growth-oriented learning environment that encourages confidence in STEM subjects.



Compensation:



  • Step Placement and Salary for this position is determined by The ACPS Teachers and Other Licensed Staff Salary Scale


  • FLSA Status: Exempt position - This position is classified as exempt, meaning it is not eligible for overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act.



Clearances:



  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
  • Public Health Compliance - Must follow safety and health protocols.
