Position Summary The Salvation Army Duluth Corps is "Doing the Most Good" by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families. In addition to worship services and pastoral care, services include short and long-term case management; food, clothing, utility, rent, and housing support; youth basketball programs, housing programs, and connections to community partners. The Maintenance Custodian helps maintain clean, safe, functional, and welcoming facilities through custodial services, preventive maintenance, minor repairs, grounds upkeep, and event support. The position completes assigned work orders, assists with facility and vehicle upkeep, and supports day-to-day operational needs across assigned buildings and properties. Wage: $18 to $21 per hour, 25 hours a week, Monday to Friday Location: 215 South 27th Avenue West, Duluth, MN 55806 Essential Functions (Approximate Time Allocation):
- Custodial Duties (55%): Ensure assigned areas are maintained in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition through routine custodial tasks.
- Preventive Maintenance (15%): Support preventive maintenance efforts by completing assigned work orders and performing tasks within the scope of training and established safety guidelines.
- Grounds and General Maintenance (10%): Maintain exterior areas and grounds through routine upkeep and seasonal tasks. Assist with basic vehicle care and coordination as assigned.
- Event Support (10%): Provide logistical support for special and seasonal events, including setup, cleanup, moving supplies and equipment, and related tasks.
- Minor Repairs and Projects (10%): Assist with minor repairs, maintenance tasks, and facility improvement projects within assigned areas.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one year of custodial and/or general maintenance experience required; two years preferred.
- Must pass background checks, possess a valid driver's license, and meet The Salvation Army's Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) requirements.
Competencies
- Knowledge of safe use and handling of cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment.
- Basic understanding of preventive maintenance and ability to perform light repairs.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, sweeping, mopping, climbing ladders, and snow removal.
- Dependable and self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic computer skills (e.g., using email or completing simple work orders) a plus.
Working Conditions
- Frequently requires standing, bending, crouching, reaching, and walking throughout the shift.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Work may include indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to various weather conditions.
- Clear and respectful communication with team members, volunteers, and guests is essential.

Driving/Travel Requirements
- Local driving of an agency vehicle is required to support Corps operations and the mission of The Salvation Army.
