The Career Center at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Career Technology and Data Specialist. About the Opportunity The Career Technology and Data Analyst supports the strategic use of technology, data, and analytics within the WVU Career Center and across University stakeholders who utilize Career Center systems and resources, including career development offices within WVU colleges and schools. The position serves as the primary technical administrator for the Career Center's career development platforms and digital systems, overseeing system administration, integrations, data management, reporting, digital resources, analytics, and continuous improvement. The position also administers the technical, data, and reporting components of the University's graduate outcomes initiatives, including the First Destination Survey (FDS), and develops reports, dashboards, and data visualizations related to career outcomes, student engagement, technology utilization, and Career Center programs and services. Working collaboratively with Career Center staff and University partners, the Career Technology and Data Analyst ensures data accuracy and integrity, translates information into actionable insights, and identifies technology, automation, and process improvements that enhance decision-making, operational efficiency, service delivery, and the user experience. What You'll Do Career Technology Systems Administration
- Manage, maintain, and enhance the Career Center website (uConnect) and related digital resources, ensuring content, functionality, and design meet university digital accessibility and ADA compliance standards and provide an effective, user-friendly experience.
- Administer and maintain Handshake, with particular emphasis on account management, data cleanup, data integrity, and ongoing quality assurance to ensure student, employer, and related system data are accurate, consistent, and current.
- Serve as the primary technical administrator and staff resource for the Career Center's career development technology platforms and digital communication systems, including uConnect, Handshake, Big Interview, PathwayU, Focus2, Listserv, and other systems adopted by the Center. Provide system administration, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation, guidance, and training to Career Center staff, University stakeholders, and career development offices within WVU colleges and schools.
- Manage system configurations, permissions, integrations, data feeds, databases, reporting functionality, and ongoing platform maintenance in accordance with university security and authentication standards to ensure data accuracy, functionality, reliability, and effective system performance.
- Manage the Career Center's Ocelot chatbot, including platform administration and content maintenance, and analyze chatbot usage, inquiries, and question trends to identify information needs, improve content, and enhance the user experience.
- Monitor and analyze website, technology platform, application, and social media utilization, engagement, performance, and audience trends to evaluate effectiveness, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide data-informed insights that support technology, communication, and operational decisions.
- Research, evaluate, develop, recommend, and implement web-based tools, digital resources, emerging technologies, process improvements, and automation opportunities that enhance Career Center operations, analytics, communication, service delivery, and user experience.
Graduate Outcomes and Data Analytics
- Administer and manage the technical and data components of the University's First Destination Survey (FDS) within Handshake, including survey configuration and setup, graduate data preparation and integration, data collection, validation, analysis, reporting, and distribution of graduate outcomes data.
- Maintain the integrity and quality of career outcomes data by monitoring response and knowledge rates, identifying and validating sourced outcomes, identifying data gaps and trends, and establishing consistent data definitions, governance, management, and reporting practices.
- Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, data visualizations, and other decision-support resources related to graduate outcomes, student engagement, technology utilization, and Career Center programs and services.
- Analyze and disseminate career outcomes and engagement data to Career Center leadership, University stakeholders, and external partners, translating complex data into actionable insights that support decision-making, strategic planning, program assessment, and resource allocation.
- Support institutional and external career outcomes reporting requirements, including alignment with NACE First-Destination Survey standards and other applicable reporting frameworks.
- Collaborate with University partners, technology vendors and external organizations on data integrations, technology initiatives, assessment, reporting, and career outcomes projects.
- Maintain documentation of technology systems, data definitions, reporting methodologies, processes, and procedures to promote consistency, continuity, and data integrity.
- Serve as liaison with the Registrar's Office and other University data partners to obtain, integrate, validate, and process student data used for Handshake, First Destination Surveys, and career outcomes reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in data analytics, statistics, information systems, computer science, business analytics, or a related field.
- A minimum of one (1) years of experience involving:
- Professional experience administering, configuring, or supporting web-based technology platforms, data systems, analytics tools, or related digital systems.
- Experience with data management, data cleaning and validation, reporting, and data visualization.
- Experience analyzing complex data and communicating findings and insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience managing or supporting system configurations, integrations, data feeds, user access, or permissions.
- Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders to implement technology, data, or process improvements.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to administer, maintain, and troubleshoot web-based platforms, databases, and digital systems.
- Knowledge of website management, usability, and digital accessibility/ADA compliance standards, including familiarity with WCAG guidelines.
- Strong data management skills, including data cleaning, validation, quality assurance, and maintaining data integrity across systems.
- Ability to analyze complex datasets, identify trends, and translate findings into meaningful reports, dashboards, visualizations, and actionable insights.
- Proficiency with data analysis and reporting tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify technology and process improvement opportunities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, consistency, and data quality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts and complex data into clear, actionable information for technical and non-technical audiences.
