Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. The Department of Family Medicine is a top-tier department with world-renowned faculty and staff. The residency program has a mission to train the next generation in care of vulnerable populations both locally and abroad.

The Department of Family and Community Medicine is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Clinical to provide clinical and teaching services on the Family Medicine Adult Hospital Medicine teaching service located at The Christ Hospital (TCH). Additionally, there will be funded time to precept family medicine residents in their continuity clinic, the Family Medicine Center (FMC) at TCH, see a panel of patients for osteopathic manipulative treatments in the FMC, and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) teaching responsibilities including classroom to all residents and supervision of OMT sessions of osteopathic residents. The physician will serve as Core Residency Faculty for the TCH/UC family medicine residency.

Residency faculty report to the Program Director of The Christ Hospital-University of Cincinnati Family Medicine Residency. Direct supervision of time in the FMC will be provided by the FMC Medical Director. Direct supervision for adult hospital medicine services provided by the Inpatient Service Line Director.

Essential Functions

Teaching

  • Provide hands-on OMT instruction in both didactic and clinical settings.
  • Mentor osteopathic and allopathic residents in the principles and techniques of osteopathic medicine.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the residency's OMT curriculum, including workshops, lectures, patient care teaching, and longitudinal integration of OMT principles.
  • Work toward meeting requirements for osteopathic recognition and ensure compliance with ACGME/ACOFP educational standards.
  • Supervise and teach learners (residents and medical students) in the residency adult hospital medicine service.
  • Provide learner feedback, including completing online evaluation forms.
  • Contribute to a positive learning environment for learners.
  • Participate in faculty development seminars and workshops.

Clinical Care

  • Provide direct patient care with a focus on OMT in a family medicine outpatient setting.
  • Re-establish and maintain an OMT referral clinic within the FMC, serving patients across the lifespan for musculoskeletal and somatic dysfunction concerns.
  • Provide direct patient care services The Christ Hospital for adult hospital medicine, including on-call responsibilities in evenings and weekends/holidays (shared amongst the practice).
  • Collaborate with interprofessional colleagues to promote holistic, evidence-based care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the clinical site(s).
  • Serve on health system committees as needed
  • Attend practice meetings for the FMC and inpatient service lines.

Scholarship

All faculty are expected to contribute to scholarship, including any of the following: curriculum development; research; regional and national presentations; publications; peer review.

Minimum Requirements
  • Medical Degree in Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Licensure by the State of Ohio Medical Board.
  • Unrestricted DEA license.
  • Completion of a U.S. ACGME-accredited three-year Family Medicine residency program.
Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a broad range of OMT techniques.
  • Prior teaching experience is ideal, but not required.
  • Strong commitment to teaching, mentorship, and academic medicine interested in:
    • Developing teacher-learner relationships with residents from R1 through R5 year of training and medical students MS1-4.
    • Crafting a supportive learning environment through expressed enthusiasm, approachability, and respect for learners, peers and all members of the healthcare team.
    • Providing point-of-care teaching tailored to the resident and patient scenarios.
    • Directing residents to appropriate resources.
    • Assessing residents and providing timely feedback.
    • Role modeling excellence in patient-centered care, communication, reflective practice, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional development through seeking additional training and/or participating in scholarly work.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to vulnerable populations in current or prior clinical care activities.
