Build your neurocritical care career where advanced clinical judgment, procedural skill, and compassionate patient advocacy directly influence outcomes for patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. Join a highly collaborative APP team caring for patients across the Nerancy Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit and Neuro Intermediate Care Unit. This role offers continuity across the critical care journey, close partnership with attending physicians and residents, and an individualized path toward clinical autonomy. The position follows a rotating schedule consisting of three 12-hour shifts per week, with one additional 12-hour shift required each month. Scheduling includes day shifts, night shifts, evening shifts (1:00 p.m. to midnight), and required weekend and holiday coverage.The team offers meaningful scheduling flexibility, including the ability to concentrate shifts around nights, weekends, or other preferred patterns when operationally feasible. The Role As an Advanced Practice Provider in the NNICU and NIMU, you will manage primarily adult patients with high-acuity neurological and neurosurgical needs. The patient population includes individuals experiencing stroke, neurological injury, post-TNK care, complex spine surgery, elective neurosurgery, and conditions requiring ICU-level management. By working across both units, you can follow patients through multiple phases of hospitalization, strengthening continuity, clinical ownership, and relationships with patients and families. Critical care experience is strongly preferred, particularly within neurocritical care, Neuro ICU, MICU, or another ICU environment. New graduate APPs may also be considered and supported through an extended orientation. Onboarding is individualized, typically lasting approximately six months for new graduates and three months for experienced providers, with a strong focus on clinical knowledge, procedural development, feedback, and progressive independence. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree. Experience: Department and unit specific. Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, and Physician Associate) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The pay range for this role is $129,323.00 - $185,265.60 annually.
