Position description

The University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine is recruiting two full-time research faculty members at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Each position consists of a joint appointment in the Regular Series (50%) and In-Residence Series (50%). The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027. We seek investigators who will build independent, externally funded research programs and contribute to the Department's missions in education, mentorship, service, and academic leadership.

The Department is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Large database and population-based research, including causal inference, epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, outcomes research, and analysis of large clinical or administrative datasets.

Addiction medicine and substance use research, including opioid-related research and translational, clinical, public health, policy, implementation, or community-based approaches.

Applicants must possess a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in health, epidemiology, or a related discipline. Additional training through a formal postdoctoral fellowship or substantial prior research experience is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate potential for independent external funding at the Assistant Professor level or a sustained record of external funding at the Associate or Full Professor level.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain active, externally funded research programs; engage in teaching, mentorship, and scholarly training of medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty; participate in departmental, university, and professional service activities; and contribute to the academic mission of the Department through research, education, leadership, and community engagement. Expectations for research, teaching, professional competence, university and public service, and academic leadership will be commensurate with rank and consistent with advancement in both the Regular and In-Residence academic series.
