Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly.

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Allied Health (AAH)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) - National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) (required within 30 days)

Education: H.S. Diploma/GED


Responsibilities

  • Room patients by collecting vital signs and completing medication reconciliation upon arrival
  • Complete telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities as directed
  • Gather and maintain patient information via telephone following department policies and procedures
  • Facilitate and coordinate care between patients, physicians, and registered nurses
  • Assist with patient check-in and check-out processes
  • Complete prior authorizations for medications and services
  • Coordinate referrals and diagnostic testing
  • Maintain injection inventory
  • Transcribe and communicate normal laboratory results to patients
  • Perform office procedures according to department competencies and protocols
  • Collect point-of-care diagnostic specimens, including urine samples and buccal swabs
  • Participate in department flu clinics, including vaccine administration and documentation
  • Provide patients with written instructions regarding procedures, medications, and follow-up care as directed by providers
  • Retrieve and provide condition-specific patient education materials from approved sources per provider direction
  • Administer medications according to provider orders
  • Assist with prescription refill requests following department protocols
  • Communicate prescription orders to pharmacies and notify patients of approved refills
  • Document medication refill activities and patient communications in the EMR
  • Maintain competencies related to point-of-care testing, equipment operation, and specialty training
  • Provide coverage support for Addiction Recovery on Kirby as needed
  • Process a high volume of prior authorizations and prescription refill requests
  • Enter data into databases and logs for statistical tracking and reporting
  • Create, maintain, and update spreadsheets and electronic records
  • Prepare routine correspondence and administrative documentation
  • Maintain accurate patient and departmental records in compliance with organizational standards
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and staff to ensure efficient patient care coordination

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
