This is an Evergreen requisition, and VersAbility Resources is currently hiring for multiple PRN Direct Support Professional (DSP) positions across our residential programs. This requisition will remain open until all approved positions are filled.
Because specific openings vary by residential location, shift, and schedule, this Evergreen requisition is used to identify candidates for our current full-time DSP opportunities.

If you are selected to move forward, you will be asked to reapply to a separate requisition that reflects the specific position, work schedule, and residential location for which you have been selected.

Role Overview
Are you looking for meaningful work where you can make a difference while maintaining greater flexibility in your schedule? VersAbility Resources is seeking compassionate, dependable, and motivated PRN Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support individuals with disabilities in our residential and community-based programs throughout Hampton Roads.

As a PRN DSP, you'll help provide essential coverage across our programs while supporting individuals with building independence, participating in their communities, working towards personal goals, and receiving the day-to-day support they need to thrive. Depending on individual needs, that may include assistance with personal care, meals, household activities, transportation, medication, community activities, mobility, health and wellness, and other aspects of daily living.

This is also an excellent opportunity for nursing students, CNAs, caregivers, human services and psychology students, social work students, special education professionals, recent graduates, career changers, or anyone interested in building hands-on experience supporting others. No previous DSP experience is required! VersAbility provides PAID TRAINING, required certifications, and ongoing support to help you develop the skills you need to succeed.

What You'll Do
*Support individuals with disabilities in residential, community, vocational, and day-support settings.
*Assist with activities of daily living, including personal care, hygiene, dressing, eating, mobility, and household tasks.
*Promote independence, choice, self-advocacy, skill development, and meaningful community participation.
*Provide transportation and safely assist individuals entering and exiting vehicles.
*Learn to safely operate agency vehicles, including paratransit vans.
*Administer medications after completing required training and certification.
*Implement Individual Service Plans (ISPs), behavior support plans, and individualized goals.
*Use positive behavior-support techniques and approved intervention strategies.
*Monitor and report changes in health, behavior, or individual needs.
*Provide assistance with health, medical, and wellness-related needs as directed by medical professionals, nursing staff, and individual support plans.
*Assist with meal preparation, housekeeping, organization, and maintaining a clean and safe home environment.
*Support vocational development, recreational activities, and community engagement.
*Maintain accurate documentation and required records.
*Provide First Aid, CPR, and emergency support when necessary.
*Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required
*High school diploma or GED equivalent.
*Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
*Willingness and ability to learn to operate agency vehicles, including paratransit vans.
*Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, including CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, Therapeutic Options, and Food Handler certifications as required.
*Ability to follow Individual Service Plans, safety procedures, training requirements, and established policies.
*Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
*Dependability, compassion, patience, and a commitment to supporting the independence and dignity of others.

Preferred
Previous experience in direct support, caregiving, healthcare, customer service, childcare, education, behavioral support, hospitality, transportation, or human services is preferred but not required.

Schedule
By applying to this posting, you are indicating that you are seeking a PRN (as-needed) DSP position and can meet the minimum PRN scheduling requirements outlined below. If you are seeking a regular full-time or part-time schedule, please apply to our Full-Time or Part-Time DSP openings. PRN employees are required to work a minimum of four (4) shifts per month, with at least two (2) of those shifts scheduled on weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday). Additional shifts may be available based on staffing needs and employee availability.

VersAbility operates residential programs with staffing needs across three primary shifts:
Shift A: 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Shift B: 3:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.
Shift C: 11:00 p.m.-9:00 a.m.

Available shifts vary by residential home, and all three shifts may not be available at every location. Specific current needs, locations, and available schedules will be discussed during the interview process. PRN shifts may include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays based on staffing needs and employee availability.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position works in residential homes, community locations, vocational settings, transportation vehicles, and other community-based environments. The role requires regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, and movement throughout the workday and may include providing personal care, mobility assistance, transportation support, and responding to behavioral, medical, or safety-related situations.

Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull 25-50 pounds and provide physical assistance to individuals with mobility and daily living needs.
