Working with our Transportation Team, you will support the planning, analysis, and design of stormwater and roadway drainage systems for transportation projects. You will gain hands-on experience working alongside engineers on projects ranging from local road improvements to major transportation infrastructure developments.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with storm sewer, culvert, and roadway drainage design for transportation projects.
  • Perform basic hydrologic and hydraulic calculations under the direction of project engineers.
  • Support the development of drainage reports, permit applications, and technical documentation.
  • Assist with preparing construction plans, profiles, details, and exhibits using Civil 3D and/or MicroStation.
  • Review survey, topographic, and utility data to support project design.
  • Participate in field visits to collect data and observe existing drainage infrastructure and construction activities.
  • Support stormwater management and water quality design efforts.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project teams across multiple disciplines.

What We're Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Interest in transportation engineering, drainage design, stormwater management, or water resources engineering.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exposure to AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar design software is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Previous internship, coursework, or project experience related to transportation or water resources is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.

What We Offer

As a Fishbeck intern, you'll gain meaningful experience and support designed to help you build your skills and explore your career interests, including:

  • Hands-on experience contributing to real transportation and drainage projects
  • Mentorship and guidance from experienced engineers and technical professionals
  • Exposure to industry-standard design tools, workflows, and project delivery practices
  • Opportunities to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Fishbeck
  • Professional development, networking opportunities, and insight into career paths in consulting engineering
  • A flexible seasonal schedule that can accommodate part-time or full-time availability
  • An employee-owned culture where your ideas, growth, and contributions are valued
