DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides daily care and support to residents by assisting with important routines and observing changes in their condition. It helps maintain safety, comfort, and good communication across the care team. As a Nurse Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Care Support: Assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, toileting, transfers, and ambulation
  • Condition Monitoring: Observe resident behavior and physical changes and report important information to nursing staff
  • Meal Assistance: Distribute meal trays, assist with feeding, provide between-meal nourishments, and support healthy eating routines
  • Safety Practices: Apply safety devices, gather vital signs, maintain tidy rooms, and report hazards or unsafe conditions immediately
  • Room Readiness: Prepare resident rooms for admissions or transfers, organize personal belongings, and support a neat, homelike environment
  • Documentation Tasks: Record care activities, dispose of waste properly, restock supplies, and maintain compliance with facility requirements

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment (8 hours per day/40 hours per week)
  • Work hours will be determined from the following shifts, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work rotating days and weekends.
    • 2nd shift (3:00 PM to 11:30 PM)
    • 3rd shift (11:15 PM to 7:45 AM)
  • Overtime as operationally necessary
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
  • DMVA is pleased to announce the Nursing Referral Program, promoting the hiring and retention of nursing staff at Pennsylvania's veterans homes. Under this program, both referring employees and referred candidates may be eligible for payments of up to $4,000.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.
  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
