Work schedule: Full-time Days (40 hours/week), 7:00 a.m.- 5:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

Primary PurposePromotion and restoration of health by planning, developing, recommending, promoting and implementing occupational health programs consistent with regulatory requirements. Prevention of illness/injury and protection from work related and environmental hazards. Evaluations and treatment of on-the-job injuries, providing counseling, health and wellness education, lab testing, and immunization services to help provide Parkland with a healthy work force capable of discharging their duties.

Minimum Specifications
Education

  • Must have a bachelor's in nursing.

Experience
  • Must have four years of nursing experience, preferably in occupational/employee health.
  • Emergency Room, critical care, community health or ambulatory care experience preferred.
  • Data management experience preferred.

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

  • Must have current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing; or valid Compact RN license.
  • Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross or Military Training Network.undefined

Skills or Special Abilities
  • Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nursing Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards.
  • Must be able to collect routine or difficult blood samples by venipuncture or capillary techniques on patients of all age groups.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Excel, Word and Outlook.Must be well organized and detail oriented.
  • Must demonstrate ability to maintain a pleasant demeanor while under pressure and stress.
  • Must be able to handle potentially stressful situations and multiple tasks simultaneously including instructing and counseling customers.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with high priority on multi-tasking and prioritizing daily duties.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, develops, recommends, promotes and implements cost-effective occupational health programs for Parkland and its staff to help ensure a healthy work force capable of discharging their duties. Designs programs that support positive lifestyle changes and individual efforts to lower risk of disease and injury, and an environment that provides a sense of balance among work, family, personal, health and psychosocial concerns.
  • Routinely coordinates and manages the care of ill and injured workers. Coordinates and triages work-related and non-work-related exposures and illnesses, which includes aspects related to group health, workers' compensation, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and disability benefits.
  • May provide employee Return to Work (RTW) document assessment and face-to-to face assessment of employees returning to work. Serve as liaison with Parkland's leave vendor, Shared Services, Talent Management Business Partners, and Institutional Risk Management, for Transitional Work Assignments/ADAAA requests; providing case management resolution. Collaborate with key stakeholders to coordinate the steps for reintegration into the workplace.
  • Performs bloodwork, Tuberculosis screening, and vaccinations to provide Parkland employees with the services needed to support health objectives and requirements.
  • Treat minor on-the-job injuries, including needlesticks, blood/body fluid exposures etc., to help manage the health maintenance of Parkland employees. Reviews, recommends, and performs follow-up protocol for positive test results by notifying the employees, Infection Control, and Healthcare associates to ensure Parkland compliance with regulatory agency requirements.
  • Counsels' employees on work related illnesses and injuries, issues such as substance abuse, psychosocial needs, wellness/health promotion concerns and other health or work-related concerns. Makes referrals to the employee assistance program and/or other community resources and coordinates follow-up as applicable.
  • Collects, compiles, reports, maintains and distributes health data to ensure Parkland compliance with regulatory requirements, and provides related entities with the information needed to evaluate and respond to employee health issues.
  • Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of Occupational Health and Parkland.
  • Participate in monitoring daily management of clinic nursing activities to ensure high-quality care and optimal outcomes. Contributes to the development of staff schedules to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities, while providing optimal service to internal and external customers. Participate in the selection and orientation of new staff. Contributes to department nursing educational opportunities for team and personal development.
  • May participate in the maintenance and quality control of all instruments and equipment, ensuring proper function. Reviews of various logs and documents as needed. Ensures appropriate corrective action is implemented as needed. Coordinates requisition of supplies and special equipment as needed.
  • Complete appropriate documentation and maintain accurate and timely entries and notations in the employee health records that meet the standards, goals, and objectives of Occupational Health Services and Parkland. Monitors quality of nursing documentation. Initiates plan to correct deficiencies.
  • Participates in health-related programs and fairs for Parkland employees to promote health and wellness, injury/illness prevention, and ensure Parkland staff are kept informed about vaccination, exposure, respiratory and other compliance protocols.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Occupational Health department. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Recommends and implements policies, procedures and protocols covering the delivery of employee healthcare to ensure that Parkland maintains a healthy workforce. Seeking advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding. Maintains State of Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse, plus any additional required licensures/certifications.Maintains knowledge of the latest developments, advancements and trends specific to occupational and environmental nursing, and to the healthcare field overall. Integrates this knowledge as appropriate into the job.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with Parkland staff, regulatory agencies, community organizations, and others to facilitate the implementation of Occupational Health goals and objectives. Assists in the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies to ensure the effective operation of the department.
  • Serves on various interdisciplinary committees as assigned.
  • Plans, implements, and leads patient education classes and in-services for staff members to educate on important topics.
