About the College/Unit/Department
The University of Georgia School of Medicine was founded in 2024 and received preliminary accreditation in 2026.
The establishment of a new public medical school at UGA comes as the state faces a significant shortage of medical professionals. The population of Georgia, the nation's eighth-largest state, has surged to approximately 11 million residents, straining existing medical infrastructure and resulting in longer wait times for appointments and reduced access to care. Georgia currently ranks 39th in the nation for the number of active patient care physicians per capita and 41st for the number of public medical students per capita.
As a top-20 public university with a thriving research enterprise and vast public service network, the University of Georgia is well-positioned to produce more highly trained physicians, alleviate physician shortages, and improve the state's ability to provide quality health care for its citizens.
The School of Medicine is located on UGA's Health Sciences Campus in Athens. In its inaugural year, the UGA School of Medicine will enroll 60 students per class, but a new $100 million medical school building will enable the UGA School of Medicine to grow to 120 students per class in the future.

Position Summary
The IT Professional serves as a technology resource for faculty, staff, students, researchers, and administrators within the University of Georgia School of Medicine. This position delivers client-focused technology services and support across academic, research, and administrative environments. Responsibilities include supporting computers and devices, Microsoft 365 services, classroom and testing technologies, and other technology resources critical to the School's mission.
The IT Professional works as part of a collaborative IT team and partners closely with School of Medicine stakeholders, central UGA IT ( EITS), and external vendors to provide reliable, secure, and effective technology services. This position is best suited for an experienced IT professional who can quickly contribute to a dynamic academic, research, and administrative technology environment with minimal day-to-day supervision.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Strong customer service, communication, troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Significant experience supporting Windows and macOS operating systems in an enterprise environment, including troubleshooting, configuring, deploying, and supporting computers and devices across both platforms.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 applications and services, including Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive, as well as cloud-based storage and collaboration platforms such as Google Drive.
  • Experience with Active Directory user and group management.
  • Experience deploying, managing, and supporting computers, mobile devices, printers, scanners, peripherals, and related technology equipment in an enterprise environment.
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, wireless networking, and VPN technologies.
  • Familiarity with classroom, audiovisual, videoconferencing, and presentation technologies.
  • Experience supporting technology services in higher education, academic medicine, or research environments.

Client Services & Technical Support

Serve as a primary point of contact for technology support and client services across the School of Medicine, independently managing support requests and providing timely resolution of technical issues. Provide exceptional customer service while diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving hardware, software, and technology-related issues in a timely and professional manner. Support faculty, staff, students, researchers, and visiting guests across academic, research, and administrative environments.
Configure, deploy, maintain, and support computers, mobile devices, printers, scanners, monitors, and related technology equipment. Provide support for Microsoft 365 services including Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive, as well as cloud-based storage and collaboration platforms such as Google Drive. Assist with Active Directory user management, group membership, departmental network storage access, permissions management, and user data migrations. Assist users with account management, multi-factor authentication, and backup activities.
Coordinate technology onboarding and offboarding activities for employees, including computer deployment, equipment retrieval, and access management. Monitor and manage support requests through the ticketing system, document solutions, and collaborate with School of Medicine IT staff, central UGA IT ( EITS), and vendors to resolve technical issues.
Assist with the evaluation, implementation, and support of new technologies and services that enhance academic, research, and administrative operations. Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and knowledge resources that support consistent and efficient delivery of technology services.

Student Testing Support

Provide technology support for student assessments, examinations, and evaluation activities. Prepare, configure, maintain, and deploy testing computers and associated equipment to support educational programs within the School of Medicine. Verify the functionality of testing software, operating systems, required applications, and network connectivity prior to examinations.
Assist with technology support before, during, and after testing sessions by troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues to minimize disruptions and ensure a reliable testing environment. Maintain testing equipment, coordinate device updates and replacements, and collaborate with academic and administrative stakeholders to support both in-person and virtual testing activities.
Develop and follow standardized procedures to ensure testing systems remain secure, consistent, and operational.

Classroom & AV Technology Support

Provide support for classroom, conference room, and event technologies used throughout the School of Medicine. Maintain, troubleshoot, and support audiovisual systems, presentation technologies, videoconferencing platforms, and collaboration tools.
Assist faculty, staff, students, researchers, and guests with classroom and meeting technologies, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other supported platforms. Respond to technology issues impacting instructional activities, meetings, presentations, and special events.
Coordinate with vendors, campus partners, and School of Medicine stakeholders to support installation, maintenance, upgrades, and issue resolution for classroom and audiovisual systems. Participate in planning and implementation efforts for new technology deployments and facility enhancements.

Maintain accurate inventory records for computing devices, audiovisual equipment, mobile devices, and other technology assets. Coordinate asset tracking, tagging, checkout processes, transfers, and surplus activities in accordance with university policies and procedures.
Assist with technology lifecycle planning, device replacement initiatives, inventory management, and equipment procurement activities. Support procurement efforts by helping evaluate equipment needs, preparing devices for deployment, and ensuring technology assets are properly documented throughout their lifecycle.
Monitor equipment utilization and condition, recommend replacement or repair of aging technology, and maintain records necessary for inventory audits, budgeting, and operational planning.
