Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications	The Department of Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum in the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University seeks qualified candidates for a K-9 tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position focused on STEM education. Minimum qualifications for the position include the following: Earned doctorate (ABD considered) in Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary or Middle Grades Science and/or Mathematics Education, or closely related area; Ability to teach core and science and/or mathematics methods courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; Commitment to working in a community of practice, to a social constructivist perspective of teaching and learning, to the integration of field experiences in professional coursework, and to working with varying populations; Teaching experience in P-12 school settings required; Evidence of scholarly potential required; established record of scholarship/creative activity preferred; Eligibility for North Carolina teaching licensure.
Areas of Interest and Preferred Qualifications (No Minimum Level Required)	Understanding of/commitment to K-9 learning Content area expertise in science education and/or mathematics education Experience working with and/or teaching courses to K-9 undergraduate education candidates; Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with public schools; Experience with supervising and mentoring pre-service K-9 education teacher candidates in the field and/or coordinating/monitoring supervision of candidates' placements; Expertise surrounding authentic and standards-based assessments at the K-9 level.

Description of the Department or Unit	Faculty in the Department of Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum have crafted rigorous and high-quality programs that are grounded in these commitments: working in a community of practice, a social constructivist perspective of teaching and learning; the integration of field experiences in professional coursework; and working with varying populations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities	Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate pre-service education courses. Pre-service education courses may include K-9 science and mathematics methods courses and related education courses; and/orAshl practicum supervision. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, participating in partnerships and professional development with area schools and teaching at off-campus sites.

Suggested Salary Range	Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
ABD Consideration:	ABD with reduction in rank and salary (see desc. below)
ABD Description	ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year. No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
