DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, the Research Associate will independently support the research efforts of various studies involving veteran health, mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in a primarily adult population. Responsibilities include the recruitment, screening, induction and scheduling of research participants, in addition to various aspects of test administration, data collection, project administration, and data management to ensure the overall continued success of all projects. Serve as a primary study contact for investigators, research staff, and collaborators. Manage the submission of scholarly products for publication and grant submissions to the DoD and NIH, in addition to support of ongoing clinical research efforts. Obtain author signatures for submission-related paperwork, upload completed manuscripts to journal online submission website and maintain submission files. Track and maintain a filing system for each grant during the submission process. Obtain biosketches and other grant-related paperwork from collaborators. Answer the main office telephone and disseminate messages in an accurate and timely manner. Work with the Clinic Manager with ongoing clinical trials to include: fielding questions from interested subjects, emailing out online survey links and troubleshooting online survey problems. Other duties assigned as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical knowledge of a biological science such as Biology, Microbiology, Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience or a related field.

  • Demonstrated communication skills. Ability to quickly comprehend written and oral instructions. Ability to write legibly to complete data collection forms. Ability to work effectively as a team member.

  • Experience developing complex surveys that require skip and other forms of logic while utilizing survey-based software (Qualtrics preferred).

  • Demonstrated organizational skills. Experience planning, organizing, and managing the scheduling of study visits, sponsor visits or teleconferences, and meetings with key personnel, all in the midst of handling multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Knowledge and skill in using Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as research databases, electronic case report forms, and other computer based programs. Ability to organize and concurrently manage information in several formats: paper, electronic, and oral.

  • Cultural competency in the veteran population.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience coordinating clinical trials in a diseased population with multiple health problems. Ability to read scientific text for general understanding of basic concepts. Ability to summarize and convey technical and medical information to lay individuals at a level appropriate for their understanding.

  • Knowledge of common laboratory tests performed and associated normal results.

  • Familiarity with regulatory documents needed for the conduct of clinical trials. Experience in submitting applications, consents and correspondence to the IRB and/or UCSD Human Research Protections Program for review and approval.

  • Knowledge in the processing and shipping of blood and urine laboratory specimens, both ambient and frozen. Familiarity with guidelines of biohazardous handling. Knowledge and strict utilization of universal precautions when handling laboratory specimens.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the grant submission process through government agencies.

  • HIPAA Certification.

  • Certification in Blood Borne Pathogens.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $68,466 - $110,142 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $32.79 - $52.75

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
