*** For Internal HR use only -- Do not apply *** With a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Vice Chancellor of UC Davis Health, the Chief Health Counsel is a member of the UC Davis Health executive leadership team and the UC Legal Health Affairs Section. The role provides strategic legal counsel to UC Davis Health executive leadership, School of Medicine (SOM), and School of Nursing (SON) deans, SOM department chairs, the hospital's Medical Staff leadership and UC Davis Health departments on all health related legal matters including regulatory, clinical, reimbursement, business, academic, and research matters. The department also provides advice and counsel to the UC Davis campus student health and counseling services. Apply By Date: N/A Minimum Qualifications
- Licensed to practice law in California, or, if not licensed in California at the time of hire, required to pursue admission to the California State Bar by sitting for the next available California Bar Examination following the date of hire and obtaining admission thereafter. Absent supervisory approval to the contrary, candidates are expected to obtain admission within 12 to 24 months of their start date and after no more than two consecutive examination attempts.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible legal experience in healthcare law, preferably in the practice areas of complex health care regulatory compliance.
- Minimum of five or more years prior legal management and supervisory experience
- Superior academic qualifications, with strong analytic, writing, and client consultation skills. Demonstrated ability to distill large quantities of often imperfect information and generate creative approaches to legal challenges facing academic health centers.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate the priorities of a complex and dynamic organization, as well as the ability to develop legal strategies which forward these priorities within acceptable limits of risk and exposure.
- Demonstrated ability to work well under conditions of heavy workload, frequent overtime, rapidly changing priorities, a highly fluid authority structure, and deadlines requiring immediate action.

Work Environment UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
